Cartridge was the biggest mistake of the N64.
Followed by upgradeable Ram. Good in theory being able to upgrade your console like a PC but doesn't work in practice.

Well, last gen, the Xbox was just insignifcant, so I only considered the analogy as HD = PS2 and Wii = Gamecube (because the PS3 and 360 share so many of their games anyway). The fact that is was a Playstation console last gen that was considered the best was merely a coincidence in the argument. You Wii fanboys are so quick to call someone else defensive...maybe it's really you? Anyway, the original argument was that the HD consoles had better games coming out than the Wii, to which you proceeded to list a bunch of Wii games. A third of which were remakes/spinoff, a third of which were staple Nintendo franchises, then the other third being legit new good games. And you'd have to be a fool to say NSMBW alone is better than the HD console's upcoming gameS (notice the bolded 's' signifying plural?). Hell, I'll just remake NSMBW in LBP and play it lol. T |
Good luck recreating all the levels, power ups, superior gameplay, different and superior control, better platforming mechanisms, ENEMIES. You're not very good at math either. There was only one remake on it and 2 spin offs. There's nothing wrong with first party games, it's the reason I own my wii. Nintendo makes some games that are far superior then any other games I've played in my life. And yes I'm serious that New super mario bros. wii beats all of the upcoming games from the 360 and ps3. It will probably also outsell them all combined lol except the greatness that is the sales of Halo. But it will still beat it easily in sales.
Your last part makes no sense, you're implying that the wii only has one good game coming out. I said it has one game that beats everything else. All other wii games coming out are just overkill/teabagging.
Ps: Seeing as you think first party games don't count(for a very strange reason) let's take away uncharted, Ratchet and clank, god of war and GT5. You're left with nothing then.

A, they have one console that overheats yet they sorted with revisions and you act like every MS hardware suffers from it. Because Sony has such a good reputation with previous console reliability rates. Thats almost as retarded as saying MS will release the next console first because thats what they've always done. Ignoring they've done it once and their first machine was the last to the market. Don't forget it's not just one set of engineers that design the entire console. The people working on the Cell also worked on the 360 CPU so are you saying they don't know heat dissipation? They've learned from their mistakes like Sony did difference is they managed to do it in 1 gen. There was very little hardware problems with the original xbox. B, So it wont do good in America then why will a PS3 slim do any better? America is where the PS3 is really lagging behind so you're saying there's no point to the PS3 slim as well? Why haven't you said that during all the "wait til the slim comes out" comments. Also america is only 1 market. You say it appeals to Japan, well thats the one major market MS really need help in so a 360 slim would be a really good idea. And you can then include Europe which is where you go when you want to make money. C, Maybe you have a point there but they can still slim the console down a lot. Combined CPU/GPU, mobo revisions, slim DVD drive. The 360 is quite big as it is and when you look at it.

The problems with the 360 are so widespread that I can't even look up the original Xbox's various problems. Everytime I search "Xbox" it always ends up being the 360. But I know that the power supply/cord was a BIG problem for the original Xbox. It even burned a dude's house down

During the 16-bit gen, Nintendo had major compettion from Sega, in the 8-bit gen they did not. Nintendo WAS the 8-bit gen, no other way to look at it. And if anyone thought the 64 losing that gen was PS1's fault, they don't know their history. And although the PS1 sold more for many reasons, it was mainly due to cartridges which was Nintendo's fault. It's the same as this gen, the Playstation 3 will mainly lose it because of Sony, not because of the Xbox 360 or Wii. |
We think a like then :) But didn't sega have an 8 bit console? Wasn't born then, so just asking

That may have been true for US but in Europe they had pretty fierce competition in 8th and 16th bit era.

I didn't say that first party titles don't count. It's just that Nintendo just reuses them over and over...and over again. Listing SMG2, Zelda, Metroid, etc as reasons why the Wii has better games than the HD consoles is like saying Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc are the reasons why the Gamecube (and coincidentally (wait maybe not) the N64) is better than the PS2 (and PS1). Sony's first party continually makes new IPs. So does Microsoft. And with the diversity and quality they both have, it's hard to even call it "competition" with Nintendo, nowadays. If 20 years down the road, Sony is still making games about how Nathan Drake finds treasure along with Sully and Elena, then I will say "staple Sony first party titles are not the reason why the PS(insert number here) is better than (insert other console)", especially if the situation is that in the previous generations, those staple games didn't allow it to overcome the competition (once again looking at the Cube and N64. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. didn't stop the PSs from trampling on those systems.)

@BMaker
As opposed to having to put your console upside down for it to read disc, the biggest failure rates of any console until the 360 came out on their second attempt, 3rd degree burns to a child, millions of laptop batteries being recalled due to them being faulty (multiple times) and exploding, ylod etc....
The point is Sony aren't any better overall and have had more problems than MS so to act like every single MS product overheats and they can't hire decent engineers is laughable.
Both companies have appalling histories with reliability so you can't pretend one is better than the other or that MS haven't learned and learned quicker than Sony.
Face it, both wish they had Nintendo's reliability record.

The master system and its still being made in Brazil.
It was the best selling console in the UK or maybe Europe I believe until the PS1 came out.
They make new ips, but they're mediocre games if you compare them to Nintendo's first party games(well, LBP was pretty darn good). Nintendo reuses their first party games BECAUSE THATS WHAT PEOPLE want. I want a new zelda, I want a new mario, I want a new metroid... I want that over any new IP. Nintendo makes new ips like disaster: day of crisis, but no one buys those games. I only said in my first post that those games were better. You went on to say they're not better then playstation and I never even said the playstation... I just said the wii had great games coming up. And all upcoming sony games are also from popular existing IP....

It was there, but Nintendo had the gen in the bag, something the PS1 wouldn't have in the 32-bit gen had Nintendo not made mistakes (ala Sony/PS3). Sega got the jump on Nintendo (ala Xbox 360) with the Genesis in the 16-bit gen and although Sega lost that gen, they still made enough of a dent in Nintendo that gen to secure a name, as Pearl stated. Now, unfortunately for Sony, the PS3 has made a dent for ITSELF in the market that means Playstation needs repair. Hopefully, the Playstation 4 can be the "Knight in Shining Armor" for Sony. |
I agree on all counts, just wanted to point out that it wasnt that easy as you made it sound for Nintendo to win in Europe, Sega had a massive following here and especially in the Nordic parts, It went so far there were Nintendo vs Sega gangs in street fights (the last part is here in sweden don´t know about the rest of Europe and Nordic countries). Now thats hardcore gamers right there and not the crybabies of today that call themseoves hardcore.
