Forums - Sony - Sony's repairs are the worst

I just sent my ps3 to sony to get it fixed when it broke at the start of last month (was a 60 gig... YLOD), and after a month, I finally got it back yesterday. I had gotten inFamous just before it died, and still haven't finished it yet.

Anyway, I got it back yesterday, and they've left it in factory mode. I called them up, turns out I have to send it back for another month!

And this EXACT same thing happened to my friend at the start of the year, they sent it back in factory mode. Luckily, he had a 40 gig, though, so he just got them to send a refurbished one in less than a week.

but seriously... I haven't played PS3 for a month, and now I have to wait another. I never realised how much I relied on it for entertainment lol

anyone have any stories like this?

I can relate, but with such impressive hardware quality this really only happens very rarely, there is not enough insight for them to invest in a superb repair service. Also the 60gb model is no longer produced, so I'm sure that has something to do with it as well.

Excuse? Sort of, they still should be more timely, but I sent my wii away and it took over 3 weeks to get it back when it just stopped working.

Neither company is going to match Microsoft, sending consoles back is basically a full time service for them.

I recommend that if you ever need to send a product in for repair that has an incredibly low failure rate like the PS3 that you detail in a note with the package exactly what is wrong, when it happened, and how long you've used the ps3 (hours per day) My roommate's PS3 was on for 24 hours a day for 8 months, and when it YLOD'd he listed that along with the odd sound it made, he got it back 6 days later.

you should ALWAYS backup your HDD, how the hell can they restore your HDD date if its malfunctioned?

Sony aftersales are no better than any other company.

My sister bought a Sony Vaio a few years back. Top of the line really nice notebook.

6 months in lines started to appear on the screen making it hard to read. Eventially these lines grew and it became evident that the screen was being scatched by the keyboard when the lid was shut.

By this point the screen looked really shabby and given the purchase price I told my sister to call Sony and get the screen replaced.

SONY : Ah yes there is a design flaw with that model so the screen scratches when the lid is shut.

Sister : Its almost unreadable how do I get you to replace the screen under warranty.

SONY : Its not covered under your warranty as it is a known design flaw.

Sister : You have got to be kidding me !

SONY : NO !

Sister : And there is nothing you are willing to do

SONY : NO !

============

We just put a piece of cloth in between the two surfaces now, to stop the screen getting any worse.

However my sister is an airline Pilot with loads of disposable income. She has vowed never to buy Sony products again.

Dumb Sony, real dumb

Yeah, I guess I'd rather it break down once than break down 5 times, like many of my friends 360's lol

but yeah I've accepted the fact that I have to play through everything again.
and all my LBP penis-rocket levels I made with friends are now gone :P

Well it wasn't Sony but I had a situation with a Nintendo repair last year.

My Wii started showing problems on screen because I would always leave Wii Connect24 on and somehow my GPU fried. I sent it to Nintendo for repairs since it was still under warranty.

I recieved my Wii back 2-3 weeks later and was surprised to find that it turned on, reached the Wii menu but after that it wouldn't read discs, Wi-Fi wouldn't work, etc...

I called Nintendo and they said they switched the Motherboard or something and I guess everything else wasn't set up to work with it because of something to do with it having serial numbers that matched the old Mobo. I have no clue but they gave me some reason like that.

Funny thing though it that while it wouldn't read my discs it had no problem taking them. It took my Wii Sports and wouldn't give it back.

I sent it into Nintendo once again and finally recieved it back in perfect working condition 2 weeks later, for a total of 4-5 weeks between the two trips.

I never got my Wii Sports back with it.

As for Sony's service, I have only needed a repair once and that was for my PS2. It was about 4-5 years old at the time so it was long out of warranty. Sony still agreed to fix it for free.

So with the little experience I have with Sony, they have been great.

With Microsoft, other than it taking me forever just to get them to cancel my LIVE membership they have been great as well.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

oh my oh my.. yes, Sony is the worse, but Nintendo ist not that much better. The only one i like is the repair/customer-service of Microsoft.

i hope my PS3 will never break :P

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

Sony were pretty fast and expedient with my 60GB PS3 (twice). I can't remember how long I didn't have the console but it was less than 2 weeks both times which means im guessing it was a look + swap situation. The thing is that I had an Xbox 360 to play at the time so I didn't really notice it was gone.

Tease.

I am so happy nothing has happened to my PS3. I don't use it all the time like a lot of gamers, so that might be a helping factor.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

i hade to deal with both sony and nintendo twice this year my ps3 got the YLOD and the second time was because the sent me back a refurbished console that had a broken disk drive the first time i go a really rude berson who treated me like a idiot the second time i got some one nice and with nintendo i had to get it repaired twice for scratching my discs both time i got nice people who were really helpful. in my opinion nintendo has better customer service
