Forums - Sales - Sept. Wii software vs PS3 software

they(japanese stats) were conveniently ignored because I live in the US and care much more about the US stats.

gamerace - i dont think you are even trying to understand what I am talking about. I would love to see true downloadable game totals. Why wouldnt VC games count?

This isnt a bias against the Wii, just logic. 80% of the money goes towards a controller, thats why I call it controller sales. That isnt stupid. In fact saying the opposite is like saying when I buy a Wii I am actually buying Wii Sports and the Wii is just a pack in. Dont call it a console sale! call it a game sale!

Who cares how much each component costs when determining what was purchased?! lets change everything around!! I didnt buy a car, I bought leather seats - the car was just a pack in! I didnt buy the never ending pasta bowl at Olive Garden, I bought a dinner mint and the meal was just a pack in ! I didnt buy a Windows - I bought Minesweeper, the rest was just a pack in!! I didnt buy a cell phone - I bought address book software! the phone was just a pack in!!

So then, tell me.  What's the difference between Wi Play and a budget game that retails at 9.99.  Considering you can get wii-motes without Wii-play... and the Wii-motes are 10 dollars cheaper.

Your arguement is that people are saying to themselves "I'll pay 10 dollars for NO REASON."

I mean, quite honestly, by your logic ALL games bought at the time you bought the console are packins since your paying extra money for them, but the console cost more.

Just like paying 10 extra dollars with the Wii-mote.

with this logic motorstom dont count too, minna no golf 5 dont count too, gran turismo 1,2,3,4 bundles (the reason because this games sell millions) dont count, daxter dont count and all games that sony pack-in dont count, and singstar, buzz, eyetoy, ddr, guitar hero dont count because the people only buy the periphericals.

You just killed your own arguement with this.  If Wii Play was included in all Wiimotes, or if Wii Play was the same price as a wiimote then I'd agree with you. But people choose to pay an extra $10. Why? For the Game. Yes, they are choosing to get an extra controller too, but the fact that they choose to purchase a $10 game with the controller is irrefutable.  Therefore it has to count.  Especially, if by your own logic $5-$10 downloadable games should count.  Now if we're talking revenue generated, then it should count for $10 sales not $50.

Boy, I'll hate this debate once Link's Crossbow Training comes out. :)

you guys arent even trying. how many times are people going to ask about guitar hero, eye of judgement, and ddr???

the point is to compare apples to apples

$10 wii play vs $60 Heavenly sword is not apples to apples

no one ever said it was free or that they were not making profits. just that its a controller sale and not a game sale. when 80% of price goes towards the controller.

and yeah the $5-$10 downloadable games should count, but they would go on a budget chart. you always compare apples to apples. anything else is silly and an invalid comparison.

Kas - that was the dumbest point yet. They other games you buy count because you are buying full priced GAMES and not controllers with a pack in.

ok, dgm there is one major logical fallacy here with regards to wii sports.
If wii sports wasn't a pack in the US software sales, and attach rate would sky rocket. People don't buy the wii just to look on the internet on play "everybody votes". They buy it to play a game. If wii sports wasn't packed in, they would buy a different game. However since wii sports is packed in wii's attach rate and software sales apparently take a huge hit for no reason.

The only way wii sports as a pack in would be relevant is if we were figuring out how many copies wii sports has sold. But we're not, we're figuring out software sales.

Without wii sports people would 99.999999% of the time buy a different game, and that would be counted. So why isn't wii sports counted?

And you get on a slippery slope with wii play. You disregard anything that goes to a certain price. Apparently a cheap game is no longer a game.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Actually, it wasn't.  Since not everybody pays full price for games.  Even for full priced games... even new.  So you  have no clue how many of those games were actually bought at full price.  That's why people don't use definitions by yours.  Well by people i mean people who know stats.

Otherwise as stated you picked a month where Sony had many titles that dropped.  Why did you use this month and say not last?(other then the obvious bias)  I rarely call things dumb, but the only dumb point in this whole thread was well... the first one.

Try this for a month where neither system has like say.... 3 or so big releases, or November where they both are going to have big releases and I imagine you'll see a difference.  Since your not counting budget games though I imagine your cutting out a lot more of the Wii's sales too?  Like RE4?  That's also a budget game, comes at half price ya know.  I mean you can try and frame the numbers all you want to get the desired result but the fact is... sad as it may be for you, framing the stats doesn't actually change them.  You could cut out all Wii games since none of them retail for the same price as a PS3 game (aside from boogie).  That still wouldn't change the actual facts.

Sorry.

Not to mention that 360 probably wasn't included because of the domination Halo suddenly brings the 360 in software sales.
