Forums - Nintendo - Why Hardcore wii games don't sell

Actually no.
They don't sell because the idiots who produce them don't ADVERTISE them.
Boom blox had a big eb games event, boom almost a million sales.

It's common sense.

People buy nintendo systems to play nintendo games. Why would you buy inferior multiplat hardcore game on wii when you can buy superior hardcore game on PS360??

No i'm going to have to disagree with most of this. You cannot say "The average 360/PS3 user follows the industry very closely..." because that isn't entirely true. Like owners of Wii's there are those, probably the majority, who own PS3's/X360's who are also unaware or uninformed. You can say a good chunk of Wii owners don't buy software often, but that can also be applied to owners of other consoles, though maybe not to the same degree but i could argue against that.

Whether they buy more software or not i am unsure, so i wont say anything about that. We can all say "the average wii owner does this" and "the average wii owner does that" but we can only give educated guesses, we don't truly know how things flow or how it could end up in the future. I don't think it's too much of an imagination stretch to say that there are just as many core Wii gamers as there are on other consoles. Don't underestimate the consumer.

I will go even further than that.  Wii owners buy software at a very similar pace as 360/PS3 owners.  I ran the numbers on that using VGC data several months ago.  I used data from the start of the generation through the end of March.  For that time period, Wii owners were buying a new retail game every 9.07 weeks.  PS3 owners were buying a new retail game every 9.47 weeks.  360 owners were buying a new retail game every 9.75 weeks.

PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

My cousin has a modded Wii, but it's not able to play modded Wii retail games, only NES/SNES/Genesis and older games. But I don't really think that's the reason for lack of sales for certain hardcore games.

The reason most hardcore games don't sell on Wii is they are either niche concepts (see Zack and Wiki, No More Heroes, Madworld, etc), or they are simply not good and don't deserve to sell anyway.

Hardcore Wii games don't sell because all the ones that do conveniently don't count in internet discussions, basically leaving nothing left.

They do sell extremely well.

You just are confusing what the word hardcore means.

Mario Kart Wii is the best selling hardcore game of this generation.

Take that Gears of War!

Although that seems like a joke, it's true.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil, Metroid, Zelda, Call of Duty, Sonic have sold very well on the Wii.

Others like MadWorld, HOTD:Overkill, Tenchu IV or Deadly Creatures bombed because of the lack of ads on tv...but don't get wrong, these games are not AAA. For example, in my case, I only spend my money on triple A games, 50-60 euros is too expensive for just a videogame and especially for the Wii, where development costs are not so high.

We will see if games like Monster Hunter 3 or Dragon Quest X sell or not, those are AAA titles.
If those games bomb, then we can confirm that hardcore games do not sell on the Wii.

overkill didn't bombed - when this game hit 200k developer announced that they are happy with those sales and are working on a sequel. Tenchu 4 and Deadly Creature were average games without any advertisment what you would expect out of them?

most wii/ds games suffers from the fact that publishers won't advertise them at all.

I think they don't sell because they don't have arms. It's hard to make a transaction without hands and arms to trade goods. I think the selling is best left to the store employees.

Lol you are silly.  Anyway store employees tend to be fanboys of the HD consoles so if it is left only to them to sell then Wii would have a problem

Store employees are either people that don't know what they are talking about or just hate their job and will sell whatever their managers want them to sell. You ever worked in retail before man?
