Want Netflix on your PS3? Well, if a survey circulating the internet is of any indication, Netflix sure does. We recently received a survey from Netflix that hints at the potential future of the Netflix service, including PlayStation 3 support. Now, this isn’t the first time such a survey has appeared; in fact, one related to the Wii made the rounds a few weeks back, according to Joystiq. However, with the one-year anniversary of Netflix’s appearance on the XBOX 360 approaching, it’s entirely possible that the movie and TV rental service is looking to branch out into other platforms to ensure total domination of gamers’ living rooms.
However, there is one interesting bit of information in this survey; unlike the 360’s built-in Netflix streaming, though, this potential PS3 streaming requires a Netflix Instant Streaming Disc to work. This would insinuate that Netflix support would not be built directly into the PS3’s firmware like it is on 360, but rather supported through an outside application. Considering the fact that the PS3 supported Hulu until just a week ago, however, it’s always possible that this could change.
In any case, chalk this up as a rumor for now; surveys like these often circulate around and then lead to nothing. What’s important, though, is that Netflix is interested in branching out to the PS3, and for those gamers with a Netflix subscription and no 360 (or no Gold subscription), that might just be enough.
