^^
Hmmm, so is it kind of free to move like in the app I posted but with some boundaries near the mii...
My hopes for the game are a little more up again... Can't wait for July!!!

Oh lord give me strength. |
You also have to understand that this is Nintendo we're talking about, and Wii Sports is their #1 casual franchise, so they're not gonna bother spending time trying to program the game that thoroughly when simple 1:1 swinging mechanics are sufficient to please the masses, which honestly probably couldn't even care less that the game comes bundled with some newfangled donglethingamabobber, so long as it says "Wii Sports" on the box.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
| Keep_the_change said: Tell me one thing, in the swordplay game the sword tracks our movements like is is centered around a point like in Tiger Woods Frisbee mode or is really free to move everywhere? |
Generally, the hilt of the sword remains along an axis running vertically through your Mii's body, and you can freely pivot the sword around that center point for a variety of attacks. You can raise your sword for high attacks (around your head) and lower it for mid and low attacks, but the hilt remains along that axis. When blocking (holding the B button), the hilt of the sword does come off this axis as you angle for a block in a particular direction, but the general movement scheme is the same as when attacking.
In short, no you do not have the "free to move everywhere" type of motion that is shown in the video you posted.
The sword games in WSR are based on Kendo, not European fencing, from the way the game instructs you to hold the controller to the motions performed in the game. The game works extremely well when played in this fashion. If you are not interested in Kendo, and particularly if you want to play with a more "fluid, wide-ranging" style of fencing, I suspect you may be initially disappointed in (or simply not enjoy) the sword games in WSR.

sweet, thanks for the impressions. I'm really excited about this game.
My wife and I have played many hours of wii sports, and we only got the wii like two months ago. Should be the same with wii sports resort.
@ ramuji
I think the mecanics for this would work pretty well simply with movements and not limiting the sword axes...
Instead of pressing B to block, we would just do the movement, without any hilt centered stuff...
Hope the new star wars or zelda have 1:1 free movements...
from the video it seems awesome, can't wait
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
2 things i want to point out about WSR after looking at videos.
1- If we never get Pilotwings Wii i can understand why. The Aeronautical games in WSR are basically copied from skydiving and flying on Pilotwings. When u skydive u fall through hoops and perform photo ops. When you fly you again go through hoops aswell.
2- Zelda should be modelled exactly like Kendo sword fighting in WSR. Still 3rd person but close enough that sword motions are mimicked accurately right in front of u on screen. Dk how lock on will work but i guess theyre working on that.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Hello, Keep_the_change.
My intent wasn't to defend their design choice over any other possibilties, but simply to answer your questions as best I could while also explaining that it does work well as designed.

I was reading about the comparison with Pilotwings and its totally true. The Aerial mode is like the spiritual successor to that game though much smaller in scope since you can only fly around the island. Luckily the island itself is very large. There is even a volcano you can enter in to through a cave and fly out of. One cool thing about this all is the controls. If you do a spiral you get a spped boost but it has to be done along a straight axis facing the screen for it to work. this is real tricky since you need to spin the Wiimote. Im doing it by cradling it one hand and spinning it quickly with the other, but even then it tilts ever so slightly.
