Don't force me to slap you, seraphic. Lame? hell no.

While maybe Lame isn't the best word, the Tales series is hardly top notch and should be compared with other B-rate series like Star Ocean.

Hell no, not after how bad SO4 is supposed to be. That's an insult.

Tales of Tempest, Tales of Legendia, Tales of the World, and Tales of Symphonia 2 are all comparable if not worse than Star Ocean 4.

Star Ocean 4 was better then Star Ocean 3. Very easily. Though imo, its not saying a whole lot.

What your doing is essentially like measuring Final Fantasy by its Spinoff series, legendia nonwithstanding. Measure Tales by its REAL pedigree, i.e. Tales of Vesperia, Tales of the Abyss, Destiny, Eternia...

After SO3 and SO4, Tales series is infinitely better then Star ocean.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Maybe Tempest and World. Definitely not ToS2. Don't know about Legendia.

How about comparing main series? Comparing spin offs to main series just shows how much better Tales is.

Legendia is a main game. I was going to throw in the original Symphonia, but I figure I was going to get flamed for it.

Yeah, but it's one of the crappier ones =/ And I still don't know if it'd be as bad. Have you even played it?

Very briefly. I can't give a review or score, but it was pretty bad.

List of Highest Rated Tales Games from IGN

Tales of Destiny II -- 8.5 PS1
Tales of Symphonia -- 8.5 Gamecube
Tales of the Abyss -- 8.3 PS2
Tales of Vesperia -- 8.2 360 Is the best game in the entire franchise. 8.2 is a joke.
Tales of Legendia -- 7.7 PS2

List of Highest Rated Final Fantasies from IGN

Final Fantasy VII -- 9.5 -- PS1 Most overrated game of all time.
Final Fantasy X -- 9.5 -- PS2
Final Fantasy X-2 -- 9.5 -- PS2 Took the excellent setting of FFX and completey ruined it.
Final Fantasy XII -- 9.5 -- PS2 Excellent concept, awful exexcution
Final Fantasy IX -- 9.2 -- PS1

So, one can see that to even begin to compete Tales of Graces will have to better than the best Tales games Symphonia and Destiny II, but I still think if it manages to do that Graces will only wind up being a 9.0 at best. On the other hand, I think the PS3 version of FFXIII will be the first 10 game at IGN since GTA IV and MGS 4, so I defintely give the nod to FFXIII.

No matter what the quality of the game actually is, a mainline FF game almost never scores below a 9.  FFIX and FFX are leagues ahead of VII,X-2, and XII yet they have the same score range.

Your opinion... though I agree with X-2.

True it's just my opinion, but flaws in Final Fantasy titles nearly always either glossed over or ignored by revierers. FFX was my favorite entry on PS2 and my favorite of the Nomura/Kitase based Final Fantasy titles. However I don't dismiss the fact that the game is extremely linear until right before the end. Tales of Vesperia, and Lost Odyssey for that matter, got screwed royally by Western reviewers. Hell, Valkyria Chronicles should have been scored higher as well. VC did all the things that western reviews complain that JRPGs don't do and it has Metacritc rating below FFX-2 WTF!?

@Outlawauron

Got some 8s. That shouldn't have averaged 8s. FFVIII was the worst game in the series since FFII NES. FFVIII is a prime example of games in the main series being overscored. Even amongst the FF faithful FFVIII is generally looked down upon.

Which jrpg do you think will be the better game? Which jrpg are you looking forward to the most?

Tales of Graces

Final Fantasy 13

Thanks for the heads up g-value.

This is not an easy choice honestly. I mean I been hyped up for Final Fantasy 13 for years but Tales of Graces looks to be coming along very well also.Right now I have to say FF13 tbh I just haven't seen enough of ToG to get that excited for it yet. Don't get me wrong they will both be must have jRPG games for any fan.

How our favorite systems are just like humans and sometimes have issues finding their special someone...

Xbox 360 wants to KinectPS3 wants to Move!  Why are both systems having such relationship problems?  The reason is they both become so infactuated with desire while watching the Wii as it waggles on by. They simply want what they can't have.

FF in almost any way will be better, I think

FF8 might not be considered a great Final Fantasy but it certainly still is a great game.

Yes, but the premise of it is rating games that haven't come out yet, which is a practice that has always bothered me.

I thought the thread was primarily about which of the two you're most looking forward to. His two opening questions are essentially asking the same thing.

It's only natural to draw upon past experiences with each series to decide on which game you think will be better. An open-minded person will judge them on merits alone whereas those who are presuming one will be better than another, are less likely to do so. I have a feeling you're referring to the latter... which would make my post redundant.

Well SO4 was reviewed better and you have admitted to not playing it so I'm really not sure what you are basing this assumption off of.  If you are saying that reviews aren't to be trusted and you only base RPG quality off of your own experience then you must admit that you don't have any experience with SO4 and thus you can't make such a claim.
