Component cables... they make a huge difference, including much more vivid colors and 480p resolution instead of 480i.

Just make sure to set the Wii to Widescreen mode, and EDTV / HDTV mode (480p) after you plug the cables. It's two separate settings.

Maybe is just my TV (Panasonic Plasma 42in) or my cables (Nyko) but I don't think component cables make a HUGE difference. Sure, some things look a bit mor vivid and better, but is not a whole different thing, not to me. Without component cables looks really good, and just a bit better with them.

Also I noticed that in some games, Zelda for example, the jaggies are more evident. Anyone with similar issue?

Worsened jaggies are evident with 480p, the interlacing actually serves to hide them somewhat.

If you prefer blurriness to jaggies, you can use 480i mode with component cables. Then you'll still have the advantage of better colors.

I prefer detail to blurriness though, even if it means a few jaggies.

Never thought about using HD cables for SD system.
Is there an improvement using PS3s component cables with the PS2?

Most PS2 games don't support both 480p and 16:9 widescreen. Most Wii games however do support them, and you'll need component cables to make these games look good on a HDTV.

1- They're not HD cables on the Wii's case, because 480p is not a HD resolution (although component cables can also carry HD signals).

2- Strictly speaking the Wii is not a SD system, it's ED (enhanced-definition). SD is interlaced only, i.e. 480i. TVs supporting 480p are much more recent than the traditional SD TVs.

There is a noticeable difference using component cables for the ps2 (I don't think they are the PS3's very own component cables, they were around before the PS3 was and the PS2 has a RGB/YPbPr toggle in the PS2's settings).

Haven't played PS2 games that support progressive scan (a few do), but even with those who don't the improvement in colours shows, and the picture is sharper. Haven't tried SCART or S-Video on the PS2, those might be enough, but over using composite component cables are really worth it.

I didn't know that about the colors. I'm gonna check that. Anyway, I prefer 480p and for the jaggies I lowered the sharpness. Even Nes games look good in that way.

I have the nintendo ones myself. The only problem with those is if you're running your sound through an A/V reciever those cables don't split far enough (I had to buy a seperate splitter for my sound). Other than that they work just fine. Mario Galaxy with componet cables (gorgeous) you're in for a treat.

Component cables separate the color information into three cables, whereas composite uses only one cable for three color channels. This means there's less interference between the channels, which results in higher color fidelity.

Try Metroid Prime 3 or Super Mario Galaxy with both cables and you'll see the difference.

Yeah, what I mean is that I didn't noticed this happens even if I put the Wii on 480i but with component cables. Thanks for the info :)
