1- They're not HD cables on the Wii's case, because 480p is not a HD resolution (although component cables can also carry HD signals).
2- Strictly speaking the Wii is not a SD system, it's ED (enhanced-definition). SD is interlaced only, i.e. 480i. TVs supporting 480p are much more recent than the traditional SD TVs.
