Forums - Gaming - WHEN did u give up on Nintendo?

I did for a short while, I was a Dreamcast-only owner for a few months. But I quickly went back to Nintendo after that.

There has not been a generation that I only had one companies console, BUT one of them has always been a Nintendo console. So left them as in finally not being Nintendo exclusive buyer has never happened for me, left them as a gaming company cause I no longer like them or w/e reason, has never and as long as Nintendo makes good games it will never happen.

I gave up on Nintendo after the N64 was basically booboo. And then following afterward, the pretty much did the same thing with the Gamecube: release the same 1st party games and then have horrible 3rd party support. Now we have the Wii. I thought it was funny and nonsensical to call it two GCs duct taped together before....but now after 2.5 years on the market, being two GCs applies to more than graphics.

The Wii, to me, is one half GC with the same first party titles we come to expect and the other half being the second GC, which is the casual/shovelware games. So yeah, it is two Gamecubes, with the second Cube being an array of crap that I don't care about, and the first Cube being the Nintendo games I lost interest in 10 years ago.

Say what you will. Call out SMG or MP3 or Twilight Princess. Nintendo's staple first party isn't going to get me to buy that another one of their consoles, and the direction they're taking with Wii Fit and Wii Sports and the like isn't helping either. Their only solution is: MAKE NEW IPS. And I mean GAMES. New action, new adventure, new strategy, new fighter, etc. Don't just rehash the same old games and expect me to be wowed. Why can't Nintendo do now, what they did back in the early 90s with the SNES?

if you haven't noticed yet, the market tends to follow franchaises these days instead of original IPs, very rarely does original IPs do well, look at the amount of sequels you get on any system, whichever party they might be, you are stuck in the same trap no matter which console you like or dislike, moot, but if you don't care, then you don't care =).

Those franchises had to start at someplace....

MGS4 or Halo 3 didn't just come out of nowhere with a fanbase of millions

right, and those Nintendo ones were once original IPs as well, see how moot it has become just now? even pikmin is now a franchaise and it was original on game cube, we are all trapped man, no way around it.

edit: not to mention Nintendo has the most amount of IPs out of all first party, but then, where did all those IPs come from? =P

Yes...they were once original IPs.....over 20 years ago. Think of it this way: When the PS1 came out, they had Spyro and Crash. They let those games run their courses, then when the PS2 came around, they got original again and made Ratchet and Clank and Jak. Gave those games a few run throughs, and then come the PS3, we have Uncharted and Resistance. Over all of the Playstation's life, Sony has delivered a constant flow of new games. Nintendo? You're still an Italian plumber who hops on goombas and goes to various castles looking for Peach, only to find out she's not there, until you reach the castle where Bowser is at, and you finally rescue her. Or you're Link going all over Hyrule beating Ganon (Ganondorf) to get Zelda. Even if there was a Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, and 3....at least the premise changed in each installment, not even mentioning that newer games were made as time progressed.

Even M$ gave us a revolutionary console FPS (as their flagship) and then as soon as the 360 came along, the first thing they did was acquire Gears (another groundbreaking game). What do we have with the Wii this generation? SMG? I just explained that without even referencing it above. I could've been talking about SM64, Sunshine, SMG, or SMB3 and it would've applied to all of them

Edit: If Sony were to take the Nintendo route, we'd be playing Crash Bandicoot 12 right now.....but that sounds silly, doesn't it? Yet many were turbo excited with the announcement of the umpteenth Mario which will probably follow the same premise as stated above

remember that Sony doesn't have that many IPs to work with so they need to constantly test the market to see if they've hit a jack pot to farm people(one being GT,) it's all the same process with every company, if the software didn't sell well, they'd just drop the franchaise route, Crash Bandicoot had a really mixed review too, it was never on par with something like the Mario games, so I'm not really surprised that it hasn't hit 12. every company is doing the same thing with IPs, not only Nintendo, Nintendo just started earlier, but they've never stopped making new IPs, maybe you just overlooked them =P. or if you are just a hater, I'd give you that too, because I don't mind haters at all.

I've never been a big fan of Nintendo games outside of Mario Bros and I lost interest in the series when Mario 64 came out. I've played some of the newer 2D style Mario games and they don't have the same magic in my opinion.

I will never give up on Nintendo, as long as they have Mario, Zelda and specially Metroid, i will be with them

yeah I wasn't a fan of NSMB myself, but the new Wii one that has 4 player coop has got me really interested, that just looks..... fun.....

btw Gears wasn't ground breaking, it didn't bring anything new to the table and the driving was crap, Gears2 still has one of the worst online experience I've ever seen even after patches, fk that game, I'd rather take KZ2 over that and I returned KZ2.

I gave up on Nintendo after Mario came to my house and threatened to break my legs if I didn't buy a Wii. I tried reasoning with him, but then he just jumped on my cats, turning them into large coins (which he then pocketed), and spit on my PS3, setting it on fire and destroying it.

While I still play it when Luigi or Donkey Kong come to "check up" on me, I'm just not sure I can trust Nintendo after an incident like that.
