Yes...they were once original IPs.....over 20 years ago. Think of it this way: When the PS1 came out, they had Spyro and Crash. They let those games run their courses, then when the PS2 came around, they got original again and made Ratchet and Clank and Jak. Gave those games a few run throughs, and then come the PS3, we have Uncharted and Resistance. Over all of the Playstation's life, Sony has delivered a constant flow of new games. Nintendo? You're still an Italian plumber who hops on goombas and goes to various castles looking for Peach, only to find out she's not there, until you reach the castle where Bowser is at, and you finally rescue her. Or you're Link going all over Hyrule beating Ganon (Ganondorf) to get Zelda. Even if there was a Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, and 3....at least the premise changed in each installment, not even mentioning that newer games were made as time progressed. Even M$ gave us a revolutionary console FPS (as their flagship) and then as soon as the 360 came along, the first thing they did was acquire Gears (another groundbreaking game). What do we have with the Wii this generation? SMG? I just explained that without even referencing it above. I could've been talking about SM64, Sunshine, SMG, or SMB3 and it would've applied to all of them Edit: If Sony were to take the Nintendo route, we'd be playing Crash Bandicoot 12 right now.....but that sounds silly, doesn't it? Yet many were turbo excited with the announcement of the umpteenth Mario which will probably follow the same premise as stated above |
remember that Sony doesn't have that many IPs to work with so they need to constantly test the market to see if they've hit a jack pot to farm people(one being GT,) it's all the same process with every company, if the software didn't sell well, they'd just drop the franchaise route, Crash Bandicoot had a really mixed review too, it was never on par with something like the Mario games, so I'm not really surprised that it hasn't hit 12. every company is doing the same thing with IPs, not only Nintendo, Nintendo just started earlier, but they've never stopped making new IPs, maybe you just overlooked them =P. or if you are just a hater, I'd give you that too, because I don't mind haters at all.
