Forums - Gaming - Ghostbusters LEADs on PS3 - But graphically superior on 360.

Developer interview:

MR : Personally, I want to show off our PS3 technology. We’re one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it. We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off.

VG247: Isn’t it the same for the 360?

MR: We’re running the same game for both platforms but if we made a PS3-only game, for example, you could double the amount of objects on screen that you’re seeing. The PlayStation 3 has seven processors and the 360 only has three, so seven versus three means you can do a lot more on the PS3. We’re keeping the game the same over both platforms so we don’t want to take out any features.

VG247: So is the game scaled down because of the limitations of the 360?

MR : For example, we’ve reserved one whole processor on the PS3 for Dolby Digital 5.1 sound whereas on the 360 you have part of one processor to do that. So we can have a lot better sound mixing and a lot more effects going on at the same time. That kinds of makes us do a little bit less in the game [360] but makes for better audio. If we’re doing a PS3 only game however, we could be doing a lot more. We could be pushing a lot more on the screen.

Exactly how long did you lurk to see CGI change?

Hey I dunno, someone posted something along the lines of EU Atari being unable to do it so they were looking for someone else to do it and Sony figured they would do their own version instead of waiting for who ever picked up the tab.

Atari is pulling out of publishing games in Europe and will continue to only publish games in the US.  So from what I understand, Sony offered to pick up publishing duties of Ghostbusters in Europe.  And naturally, they would want the PS3 version to get the majority of sales (more money as publisher and from licensing fees), hence the delay for the other versions.

So...why are people classing this as money hatting? (not trying to argue anything just requesting clearity).

I still laugh when i see this threads, mainly because i'm from the era when there were real differences between multiplats, like Mortal Kombat, Tony Hawk, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Shinobi, Rambo, Street Fighter II, Megaman X3, Doom, etc., now the fight is if PS3-360 multiplats have slightly better graphics and the difference doesn't affect the view at all, let alone the gameplay, now, things like Madden i can see, but this? come on...

In general PS3 is the lead dev platform nowadays, and in general multiplatform graphics on the two consoles are equivalent; either system may have an edge for a given game, but it's small.  The 360 advantage seen when 360 was lead platform is pretty much nonexistent.

Now, for exclusive titles, PS3 games do seem to have the edge and seem also to be improving at a greater rate than 360 games.

This here thread is alt-account fanboyism.

There's so much wrong with this post I don't know where to begin but I'll give it my best shot.

- PS3 is not the lead dev platform nowadays, source?

- Generally the 360 has the edge in a given game. I'm just being honest, we're talking minimal here.

- I disagree on the exclusive titles debate. You will generally find that it is just PS3 fanboys idolising their exclusives giving the impression that they are superior to a given 360 exclusive. Fanboy fanfar does not = fact. Most fanboys haven't even properly experienced exclusives on the other platform. This is why I disagree and can't take that seriously.

EA and Ubi have been moving in the direction of making PS3 the lead more often, though they haven't issued blanket rules to their studios on the matter.  I probably worded my initial statement too strongly, though.  I didn't find a source indicating which platform was leading over half of the multiplat games currently in development.

"EA have commented in the past on their desire to put the PS3 as lead platform and judging by their new titles it seems like the plan is set in motion. It has recently been revealed via OPM that Mirror’s Edge is currently developed on the PS3 as the lead platform. Dead Space is another title that have been revealed to use the PS3 as lead platform as well."

I think you may be right about 360 still having a small edge in multiplats; my point was to say that it's not close to the same situation earlier this gen where 360 multiplats were clearly better and PS3 versions suffered from real problems (back then, 360 was pretty much universally the lead).  Going forward, we'll see.

On exclusives, we'll agree to disagree.  I could say the same about '360 fanboys' playing up 'superiority' of Gears, etc.  But it wouldn't show anything, would it.  I'm optimistic about the future, enjoy yours!

It's quite sad really, only thing to do is to accept it exists and move on.

What are you talking about man? The embers! My god the embers!

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

The embers alone made me say F-U to the ps3 version, I'm boycotting the game entirely along with the other "64million" gamers who got screwed by Sony.

So it is Sony who's publishing the 360 and Wii versions?

Maybe a delay could help the PS3 sales if word of the differences get around.
