I'm proud of Last Guardian for beating out some heavy hitters in the non-playable category (as proud as someone who is just a fan and had nothing to do with the game otherwise can logically be). Rest of the awards seem good too, though I thought there was an adventure game category before, perhaps I'm getting it confused with another site's list.

Nah man, you shoulda heard Gametrailers roasting XIV as a MMO. It was a huge surprise all the way up until the "online" flashed across the screen, and then is was a huge letdown. You can't trick your way into an award at E3, imo.

Anyway, the MGS games and Natal were cool, but VERY expected, right? Kojima doing a very cool looking Castlevania game was indeed my surprise of the show.

lol, I'm very tempted Torillian...I'm very tempted to say that were I to cast my vote, I would say the concept art for the next Wii Zelda beat out Last Gaurdian in that category....but I would be joking, lol. I thought it was just something that was pretty funny at this very moment.

GoWIII was complained about by G4 and others for being very much like GoWII, with just more enemies. That is why it dodn't make the list. However, Uncharted 2 is on the list for best graphics tech. I think you missed that one.

GoWIII is highly popular, but IGN didn't think it was the best. In fact, it got snubbed on a lot of lists. Did they change developers or something?

But how on earth could Alan Wake beat God of War 3 in action, cmon now. I mean, okay we saw alan wake, but comparing that to god of war, IN ACTION, alan wake isn't even in the competition in my eyes, idk though.

There was a lot more shown behind closed doors that wowed them. What we saw was basically a combat demo.

I see what you mean, but I think "action" was just a genre, rather than the actual quality of physical fighting in gameplay. SotC could be an "action" game by that potential.

I am pretty sure ign played the GOW3 demo before E3 though, that might also influence their pick.

3 surprises bigger than FF XIV being an MMO:

1. XIV was announced at the show at all

2. XIV is coming to PS3, at this point perhaps exclusively, and

3. XIV is coming in 2010

 

XI was an MMORPG.  Why was XIV being so the biggest bombshell?  Hint: It wasn't.

 

FF XIV, existence and release date, was the biggest surpise.

Metal Gear games were big, but were also heavily expected.

my 2 biggest surprises for E3 were Kojimas Castlevania and Team Ninjas Metroid, so i can't complain
