but the trolls said ALL THOSE other games in the list in the OP flopped too (at their launch)

Yes, and they did too. PS3s new IPs have sold very badly in this gen, xcept for Lil Big People.

(Uncharted sold decently too after a slow start).

I'm glad that new IP's are getting some love. I hate it that the last 2 generations of video games seem so stuck on established IP's. That being said, I'm a Nintendo fan, and I don't really think 176K is all that hot compared to most big games on the Wii. It's just that people don't give new IP's a shot, and Nintendo mainly pushes established IP's, or advertises the heck out of them (like they've done with WiiFit).

Troll post or ignorance? Wii new IP's like MW and NMH are impressive compared to infamous. Infamous is a flop

@slimebeast

well they have done better tha all MS 1st Party new IP's

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Give it up. None of them flopped critically or financially (For a sec I forgot about Lair and Haze but these arent the game slime is talking about.). Only in your fanboy mind where every Ps3 fan has every Ps3 game has the expectations of Halo 3 sales. When back here on earth every Ps3 fan pretty much gets the sales smack dab on the nose.

In the grand scheme of things (eg, comparing it to 360 or Nintendo exclusives)...That's not very good. Good for Sony, but I really wonder how many copies they need to break even on something like inFamous.

JEDE3, Why are you suggesting that I was trolling? I was merely stating that I'm supportive of new IP's, no matter which platform they're on. I'm a big Nintendo fan, but I applaud Sony developers for pushing new IP's. That being said, I don't think 176K is much to write home about, compared to numbers we see for X360 and Wii games. Could you please explain your issues with my comments? Thanks!

Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!

"I don't really think 176K is all that hot compared to most big games on the Wii."

Punch-out - 122k
Madworld - 64k
No More Heros - 73k
Boom Blox - 58k
Endless Ocean - 44k
Zack and Wiki - 56k

Yeah Infamous first week sales in NA suck compared to these WW sales of these Wii games. YEAH!

And the only game of this list I've played is NMH. But I know a lot of people think these are great games so it's not like I listed a bunch of poor quality crap games.

lol. The only one of those that's a "big title" was punchout which isn't even a new IP.

I think the person might have just been misinformed. Unless he comes back and randomly mentions legs...then that will just be irritating.

When was Infamous hearlded as a "big title"? Look at the prediction thread and most said less than 200k... and it sold about that in US alone. Pretty impressive to me.

JEDE3 -

Why not compare some of the bigger debut IPs that Nintendo had, rather than the smaller ones? After all, it's not like Sucker Punch is a random 3rd party...Their last non-PS game was over a decade ago, which puts them firmly in the realm of most other N-published titles (Sony published inFamous, too, BTW). Wii Sports would come to mind as a new IP...It sold similarly to inFamous' first week (Japan numbers for WS, BTW). Of course, we all know how this will end up when you try to compare WS Japan to inFamous WW, right?

Also, I was trying to take it in the context of LTD sales. inFamous will most likely hit ~1m sales...Which is similar to Boom Blox on the Wii, and will most likely end up south of the 360's similar game Crackdown (which debuted to 320,000 units sold in North America alone - a figure higher than NA and PAL combined on a system with far less sales).

@ mrstickball, a team of 60 people working for 3 1/2 years, so how much do they need to sell?

Just a point, Uncharted's 1st week so small because of some gamestop's leaking the game early

Anyway, very good for inFamous, its a great game and it deserves the sales. And anyway, all of those games have sold great in the long term, apart from MS PR, these games all seem to have small first weeks
