i think they did ages ago , its called PlanetSide.

I use to play planetside.. I liked it a lot, but if your calling planetside a Halo killer than you never played it

ps - Reading the latest preview about MAG made me think of planetside

Indeed planetside was an amazing game and there's still no other game like it in the market. Too bad the game is dying because it's player population is really low these days, especially european server. (I DEMAND A REMAKE!) :/

and I am also very interested in MAG since it reminds me a lot about planetside.

Halo is an ok fps-game not groundbreaking but everything it does it does well and lot of people are attracted to it's sci-fi theme. to "kill" of a video game you need to make something really original which is very hard for fps games since it's usually about shooting anything that comes on your path, so only way you can complete is to make the game look better graphically, but better graphics will never give a huge enough edge for a game so that people would stop playing any earlier FPS-games they liked.

Sony's FPS as listed in the OP = 7 mil
MS only FPS as listed in the OP = 9.6 mil
MS fps > Sony's fps.

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

[No.
Probably never will.

Halo is to FPS what Gran Turismo is to Racing and what Mario is to gaming.]

Nicely said. Totally agree.

Socom is TPS.

If we are talking about sales then no, there can never be a Halo killer...the game is just too popular and the only game I can see beating its sales is Modern Warfare 2 (not total multiplatform sales, only the sales on the 360).

But when one talks about content and how good the game truly is, then I think there have been two halo killers already. The first and most obvious is COD4...granted, Halo 3 had a better campaign, but the overall package in COD4 was just fantastic...this game was the first Halo killer...the second game (and many of you will disagree) is Killzone 2, which in my opinion is the best shooter out right now (it will probably be beaten by Modern Warfare 2). I won't talk about graphics because the game released 1 and a half years after Halo 3, but the campaign mode in Killzone was simply mindblowing. Not only that, but the online in this game was magnificent and on par with Halo's, if not better. And with the high production values in this game and solid DLC maps that keep coming, the game is truly better than halo.

Of course, the sales of KZ2 can't compare with Halo's, mainly because Halo is very established while KZ2 is making a comeback from the previous installment which wasn't that great of a game. In the near future though, I think we can expect to see the Killzone franchise achieve close or equal sales figures if Sony promotes the game well.

Meh, it's all opinion.

yeah ur right about that...kz2 had its share of detractors, as did halo 3...i guess it's near impossible to determine which is better...thats why we rely on statistics (i.e.sales) and until a ps3 exclusive can sell as wonderfully as halo, then that will be the day u can say we have found a halo killer

Agree.

There's only been three FPS franchises that have really sold consoles ...

GoldenEye on the N64

Halo on the XBox/360

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on 360/PS3

In the last 15 years. This year's importance might be a tad overstated.
