Forums - Sony - Is SIXAXIS officially now irrelevant?

I hope not. I really hope they'll continue to use it.

Check out my game about moles ^

(1) the SiXAXIS was never really relevant , only had a small role in major release and occasionaly a big role in PSN games.
(2)This new motion controller is not a replacement for the dual shock (which has the SIXAXIS built in).

MMh to me it was irrelevant from the start... works so badly...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

No. Not many people will pay for the PSEye and the PSMotion. Besides, those experiences are based around using motion control as primary control, while Sixaxis was always meant to be supplementary. It has a major role in some games, sometimes done well (Flower) and sometimes not so well (Lair). But I would say its best use as a secondary control was in Tools of Destruction. Controlling the tornados was a bit gimmicky, but the sixaxis actually FIT in the minigames- you wondered how you'd ever used an analog stick for them.

Even a small implementation can add variety to the game. Uncharted, for example. Balancing on logs, and reaching back when holding onto a ledge. Sixaxis helps with both.

Sixaxis controls were never all that relevant, and I think they will be just as used for future PS3 games as they have been in the past.

Some games made awesome use of it (Uncharted, Flower, Ratchet & Clank, Army of Two) and others have made bad use of it (Mirror's Edge, Uncharted) while some games could have made awesome use of it, but didn't (Dead Space, Resident Evil 5).

I hate the balancing mini games. I have never seen a game do it right, not even Uncharted.

On the other hand, leaning back the controller to lean back Drake when you wanted to jump backwards was one of the best Sixaxis uses I have seen to date. Once you've tried it, you find that it works much better than the analog stick, and you're soon using the Sixaxis for this without even thinking about it. Now that indicates that it has been well implemented!

This.  Sixaxis is right up there with "here's a giant crab" and "real-time weapon swapping" for in-jokes of this generation.

i must note that i ONLY play MKWii with the classic controller

and come on talk about an awesome comtroller, wieghs like a quarter pound if that, and has all the buttons of a ps3 or 360 controller

i honestly wish i could use it on my 360

So you play Mortal Kombat on the Wii with only the classic controller?  The waggle didn't impress you?  And yes, there was a Mortal Kombat game for the Wii, which is why I mention this.  They tried to implement a waggle control, so my question is relevant.  Not sure why one wouldn't do Mario Kart on the Wii with the classic controller though. I know the steering wheel lacks weight, but it would seem a natural.

Wtf is wrong with some of you people? Flower is a Recent example of Sixaxis and ALL it's Majesty.

Such Blasphemy... It's Still being used with more then a few games to come to PS3, you just have to look for'um, like Dark Sector, i thought DS was the same as the 360 version but no, it has Sixaxis support for the Glaive, really badass.

But the best examples for the use of Sixaxis would be Folklore, Flower and inFamous. (with inFamous Cole has a Power where you rain down a Storm of lightning and it's controlled 100% by the Sixaxis motion.)

With that said, yes, Sixaxis is still very much used and NOT forgotton.

Well, "irrelevant" here is now as in a feature that is important to the PS3.  it seems like Sony has moved away from it.  Doesn't mean it isn't used, just it doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.  Shoot, I didn't even know you could use Sixaxis in inFAMOUS, and that game has been keeping me busy for hours.
