Forums - Sales - Sales analysis and discussion, can the PSP outsell the GBA?

Didn't GBA only last 4 years?

No, it released in 2001 and was selling until at least last year, I remember seeing NPD threads on GAF where it outsold the PS3, Nintendo cut its life short though that's for sure.

Actually, looking at it..hell no.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Personally, looking at the stat Montana posted, I'm going to have to say no, though Sony can't be faulted for being the best-selling non-Nintendo handheld game system ever.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Probably not.

Though if you look at it, the PSP hasn't had a single high quality title all year. And last year, it didn't have very many either. Sony are actually making some *gasps* GAMES for it, and that should help sales significantly.

It all depends how succesful is the PSP Go, if it has desired effect then yes. But for sony HW arent that much of a problem PSP is succesful , it still outsells the PSP , its the Software sales that have been a huge problem for Sony with the PSP.

Some thoughts

Should the PSP Go be considered the same console as the PSP 1000/2000/3000?
Since the medium for games has changed -- and there is not full B/C (at least not yet), that could be considered a system shift. (Though it is in reverse since the older models actually play the newer and older games while the Go will only play the digital games).

As for the numbers, the PSP is almost 19M behind the GBA at the same point in time (weeks from launch) and almost 32M behind overall.

Last year, the PSP sold nearly 12M units. It would take almost another three years of sales at that pace to catch and pass the GBA (which is no longer sold). The question is whether a system that is already four years old (and going on its fourth hardware revision) can keep up such a constant pace. My thought is that digital distribution may be the wave of the future but over-reliance on it is not a smart strategy in the present. So PSP sales will die down after the initial PSP Go flurry. They will not be able to maintain for the next three years. And a true replacement will be announced at E3 2011 -- preventing the PSP from reaching the GBA.

no way

anyone i know with a psp has a hacked one, they arent upgrading to the new one

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

i dont think it will

DS Lite is at 130$
PSP-3000 Slim 170$

the average consumer in this time would by the cheaper console meaning the ds also the average consumer shops at walmart and in all the walmarts I've been in there's nothing in the Psp section (20 games and 5 movies) and the ds section has over 50 games

dsi 170$
psp go 250$

same as above plus i don't think many retailers will be happy with the psp go because the store will not any money for the games sold also i could get 2 games with the dsi for the price of the psp go

in the end i think sony shot them self in the foot with the psp go not many people like digital disruption and would rather have a physical copy of the game retailers wont aversive the psp go because they wont get any profit for the games sold, the price of it is way to expansive for the economic problems were in right now and the consumers will be alienated because this is there 4th model of the psp first one being in 2005 next in 2007 next in 2008 and they final 2009 they will think sony will just release a new one next year i really cant see them selling a hole bunch of psp's

in the end i see a jump in sales when the psp go is release then it will fall back to normal numbers with in 2-3 weeks over all i can see sony releasing the psp2 in either 2011 or 2012 killing of the changes off the psp reaching the sales of the GBA

I found it was interesting that thesimExchange predicts LTD sales of the PSP to be 81.32 million right now.....
