Final Fantasy III, if you're using the NES version, is nearly 20 years old. And it sold over 2 million copies on the DS. Bad excuse much? |
Final Fantasy III is a remake with 3D graphics, Chrono Trigger is just a port with the same graphics and without new effects. Chrono Trigger sold almost 900k on the DS, this is enough for a port that don't changed too much. We can't compare CT with FF3, because FF3 has a lot of changes and new graphics.
Everyone that wants to play it has already owned the game or the rom of the game, why should we buy it again?

Unfortunately to do that it would probably have had to sold 50% more than the original did. It doesn't matter that the U.S audience expanded compared to the Snes version, or that in half a year it sold almost half of what the original did despite being a slightly enhanced port. |
Can you count?
it's a shame.... yes, the game is old, but its just as good as the SNES version, and i haven't seen the original on VC yet.
also isn't 850K more than the highest selling JRPG of this gen! (lol)
Also that means they've probably SHIPPED 1 Million
Also, to my knowledge, they never actually localized it, which could have drastically increased Euro sales.

wait what they are dissapointed that their game sold only a 1mln copies in its first year on tha market? and it's a ds game so it will be selling for years. besides it's just a straight port from snes how much money they spend on this game? 3mln including advertisment? probably less.

I didn't actually mean a decade, but by 2010 comes along it would be 7 years of developement(game has been in developement since 2003, that is most likely counting early stages like deciding the plot, and battle system though).

Why count those early stages, it could hardly have been a money sink then.
FF13 only went into major development in 2007.....or late 2006
