Forums - Nintendo - if Nintendo had shown Natal instead...

Yeah, if you want to walk just walk, especially on FPS where the distances or the speed of the movement are pretty big, you should rent a theater. Good luck with that, or even if you have such a big house you are getting tired.

i have yet to see a true answer to my motion questions. ill say it again since you seem to be avoiding it. how do you MOVE? by jogging or running in place? people will get tired of that. theres also the issue of space. im sure not everyone has a huge living room or room of choice for NATAL.

what about fighters like street fighter and soul calibur, how do you preform all those complex combos?

or how about arcade games?......................(i feel like im repeating myself)

please answer my questions instead of avoiding them.

OMG! I already explained this twice! Don't you people know how to read? I've never seen such a dense group of people in my life!

Moving: If you want to jump, jump. If you want to walk, walk in place, walk foreward, say "walk". If you want to straft, move sideways, say "straft left". If you want to crouch, crouch. If you want to hide behind something, move like you are moving behind it, and say "takeing cover". For complex fighting games, if you want to puch, punch, if you want to use a combo, just say what combo you want to do. if you want to do a complex combo, just say what combo you want to do while you act like you are punching. For arcade games, obviously just make the motion you want replicated. I

Buttons, triggers, thumbsticks, dpad: You don't need any of those. Anything you would do with a controller, you now physically perform the action, thus completely eliminating the need for any sort of a controller.

Facts that play into the whole argument:

MS plans to make Halo and COD work with Natal, This should tell you they have a plan for controlls on FPS.

MS whole marketing campiagn is based on "You are the controller" adding a waggle remote would completely nullify the very core of their marketing sloagan.

MS will make sure that all games for NATAL will also work with the origional controller. This means, if you get tired playing with the motion control, or are just too fat and lazy (why would you buy NATAL at that point?) you can switch over to the regular controller.

I hope this has answered everybody's questions.

well atleast you tried to answer my questions this time. plus you contridicted your self. you say NATAL will eliminate the controller. yet you mention that each game made for NATAL will be compatible with the regular controller. doesnt that defeat the purpose of NATAL?

running: okay, walk or jog in place, but people will get tired of that. i doubt there is a room big enough to scale a whole game map by just walking forward like you said. also saying walk and stop constantly isnt really that practical.

MS has to factor in space of a room as an issue. like i said, not everyone has a 2,000 sq. living room.

fighting combos: tell it what combo to use? that defeats the purpose of actually fighting.... you can just bark orders at the game. so much for hardcore...or fun.

and arcade games? what about pacman :champion edition, do you just trace the path? i dont know about you, but i would get tired of holding my arm out and pointing where to go.

NATAL is a nice piece of tech but it has way to many holes that MS has to fill for me to be totally sold like you. you are being way to optimistic about something that has yet to prove itself by actually showing a game being played. i remain skeptical because, so far, all iv seen is an eye toy with voice recognition. i cant possibly see any real hardcore games, save for probably a rail shooter, on NATAL. it will be great for the very few casual players who own a 360 but for hardcore games...just cant see it happening.

im not gonna run into the streets proclaiming NATAL is the best thing since sliced bread until i see a Halo game work WELL on NATAL.

Why do some Ninty fans act like Emos?

Seriously... all this "everyone hates Nintendo" stuff is getting out of hand.

No... people wouldnt have took the piss, and the media would still love it.

Yeah, I suppose yo never gave a thought to SCALING. yet another thing I adressed in an earlier post.  So lets do this.

Walking: Walk forward a few steps, say "walk forward", walk in place. there are many different ways this could be done.

Scaling: Would it not make sense for NATAL to scale your "walking"? For example, you take one tiny step, NATAL scales it up to a full step in game.

you said that NATAL will eliminate the controller. you also said that each game released for NATAL will be compatible with the original controller(like some games on the wii are compatible with the GC controller). if a game works on both NATAL and the original controller(not necessarily at the same time), then that defeats the purpose of NATAL doesnt it?

try reading my posts and the stuff i highlighted completely next time. its not that hard.

Don't you think all the "lolz wii has no gamez craptendo dos not car for hardcore games wii sucks thrid party games dont sell lol wii just silly waggle get a hardcore gamer console ps3n360 4 lyfe!" is getting out of hand to?

I'm not saying Nintendo fans should be moaning all day about this. Honestly, i don't think Nintendo fans should make threads like this because things are never going to change in the end, Nintendo will always be hated and it just gets everybody heated up. Hell, even i get all kinds of pissed :P

Just look at TX109 and ironman. One of them is practically banging his head on a brick wall, and the other is discharging nonsense.

But in all seriousness, you cant possibly be surprised by any of this. It is by no stretch of the imagination to say that Nintendo has been treated unfairly by the press and gamers alike. Yes, i do believe if NATAL was announced by Nintendo for the Wii that both the media and gamers would not be as tickled with the idea as they are now.

How technical is your game?

The thing that worries me about Nintendo is that they are reaching a point where more and more obstacles are placed in front of them.

For instance, their audience expansion is already very saturated. Naturally that raises the bar on how difficult it will be to expect growth. With many people owning Wii consoles already it's difficult to expect this incredible growth to continue. If they had a new console, or a new design/configuration, maybe re-purchasing would help them keep growing especially at a lower price point. But as it stands right now they're not doing any of those things.

Second there is the economic downturn, that's another obstacle especially when you reach into the late adoption part of the cycle and you're not willing to drop prices. Then there's Natal, which is a PR stunt.

Now let me tell you why this concerns me. Were you here when the Dreamcast was around? Remember how the PS2 was announced in march of 1999 and suddenly it seemed like nobody wanted a Dreamcast anymore? See, you may think PR doesn't work, but sometimes it does. Especially when you're being "Dreamcasted".

Another instance where "Dreamcasting" happened was when the Xbox 360 was launched. Remember the KZ2 CG? FFVII? And guess what was the outcome? That year the 360 had a very bad reputation. Microsoft scrambled to get as many features as possible into their console and it resulted in flawed manufacturing. Among other things.

I fully expect next year to be better for Nintendo if things work out like I'm seeing them. Once the pressure builds up and Microsoft starts having to show their hand, instead of vision, the reality of expectation/letdown could kick in. As it normally does when "Dreamcasting" is used.

But for this year I don't think the "Nintendo is doomed" talk will end. You'll likely see a reduction of YOY sales througout the rest of the entire year. Sometimes dramatically like in November or even December. It is not unreasonable to expect that considering the new obstacles and the lack of solutions for them in the short term. Before Nintendo can rise again, if at all, they'll have to go through this phase which will probably be themed on disappointment this year. Especially when it comes to sales.

Sorry buddy, that won't fly. I read every bit of your posts and saw no evidance that I contradicted myself. Try reding the protions you highlighted in my post again. It's quite simple. While NATAL completely eliminates the need for a controller, what happens when you get tired of using NATAL, or just decide to be lazy one day? MS is just giving you the option to use the regular controller if you wish. that is in NO way, a contradiction. I suppose I will have to reapeat this a third time, just like I did everything else.
