Well, still not comparable with the 3 million copies of FFVII sold in less than 48 hours in Japan in 1997, but close enough.

get your facts right, 2.3 million in the first 3 days

You get yours straight, how old were you in 1997 anyway ? 10 or something ? So don't lecture me.

It sold close to 2.8 million in about 48 hours, more than 3.5 million in it's first month of sales in Japan. And sold 1.3 million copies more that year.

Though launch day in the US was in September, the 1 million mark was only reached by the end of the year.

Europe launch was in mid-November and sales reached  500K.

So the game sold over 6 million copies in 1997 alone, mostly in Japan. And in case you're wondering, there were only about 25 millions Playstationers worlwide at that time.

I'd like to see a link about that. Nice job insulting the guys age without providing proof of your own BTW. This is all I could find on Google:

"Square releases the Final Fantasy VII video game for the PlayStation in Japan. (Two million copies sell in the first three-day weekend. Total worldwide sales over its lifetime: 8.6 million.) [556.99] [591.24] [630.62]"

http://www.islandnet.com/~kpolsson/vidgame/vid1997.htm

From Wikipedia:

"Within three days of its January 1997 release in Japan, the game had sold 2.3 million copies."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII

And you also wrote that it sold 3m copies in 48 hours... Which I find extraordinary because FFVII launched in January 1997 yet this site has it listed at only 3.2m copies sold for the entire year.

http://www.creativeuncut.com/topsell97.html

Even VGChartz itself has lifetime FFVII Japanese sales at a little under 4m lifetime yet you claim it sold 3.5m the first month.

Research, indeed. I'd be a little more careful around here before mocking someone about their age or research done on a game's sales.

Yes my excellent math lol. I originally put 40%, thought it over and replaced it with 50% but forgot to change my wording to reflect that. My point is, even if Halo has an incredible attach rate, its likely that half of all owners won't even have Halo 3.

Maddens Launch did very well with over a Million by now (in US) and Forza has over a Half Million sold, and those are definitely system sellers.

"All sarcasm aside, I don't think you can argue that Halo 3 is a must buy for most 360 owners. You can try if you like. "

When did I try arguing Halo 3 is a must buy?

I said the opposite, that Halo 3 isn't a must buy. At least we both have a fuckup now :P I just think your view that Xbox 360 as a one-trick Pony is wrong. Yes the Wii doesn't quite have a property thats as "key" as Halo is to the Xbox, but Super Mario Galaxy for example is going to be an important title for the Wii.

Man... why do you have to be all nice? I wanted to start a fight.

I don't think the 360 is a one trick pony either. They have lots of great games, but there is no game out there on any console that is going to touch Halo 3's first day sales. I still say Halo is Xbox, since it's the one game that will keep the console going. Without Halo, I think the orginal Xbox's fate would have been a lot different.

^^ I agree.

Halo/Xbox Live/Action & FPS Games are why I picked up an Xbox originally after buying my PS2 at launch (still played both a bunch obviously).

I agree that Halo is a key part of the Xbox community, whereas with Wii and the PS3, you could take out any number of games and the community could keep on chugging.

Seriously whats your problem video

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

RTS games on Consoles suck.....IMO

Most of the big ones have been PC ports which is half the problem.

No problem. I have no issues with arrogant assholes but I do have problems with arrogant assholes who don't spend 45 seconds researching their argument.

In any case, I seriously doubt we'll see VideoGirl posting in this thread again. Jackasses like that tend to run and hide after being served a nice warm glass of Shut the Hell Up.

Damn!

See Nintendo? Marketing causes hype. Hype causes excitment, Excitment causes pre-orders/word of month/purchase. All 3 result in money for you.

Metroid Prime 3 could have done sooo much better if hyped and marketed well :(

I agree that Metroid Prime could have been marketed a little more, but I don't think it really had a chance against Halo 3. If you are a 360 owner and you could buy only one game this year....Halo 3 would be it. On the other hand, if you're a Wii owner and could only buy one game this year....it could be MP3, SMG, RE4, etc. Halo is Xbox.

Why spend on advertising when you can't even guarantee your console will be in stock?
