Forums - Microsoft - Is your gaming room Natal Ready? If not, would you reorganize it for Natal?

It doesn't need to be able to see your whole body. Even if you move out of the camera's view it can predict where your limbs and other parts are judging by the rest of your body.

I doubt it can guess where your foot is if you have a table obscuring most or all of your lower leg.

Only time will tell if it can or not. Clearly this product is meant for the living room and not for a gaming/bedroom though. It's the casual approach of "jumping in". Which is fine with me as long as they bring the games.

The room in my house with the games is big enough it just needs to cleaning. I would have to move my brothers giant rockband drums and some chairs out of the way.

Forgot about Rock Band, another game that supports my above point.

Natal needing a lot of room isn't a huge deal and people are already getting use to that with games like Rock Band, Wii Fit, and even things like Dance Dance Revolution.

I already have to move the coffee table out of the way for group Wii Sports sessions and whatnot, so it's not a big deal.

I see myself booting my rockband gear for this. Rockband is so yesterday anyways...

nothing is more hardcore than re-arranging your living room to play video games.

The 15X20 is Natal's max area of detection. Of course you wouldn't have to have that to implement the game I describe, although utilizing that area would be awesome. The idea of your actual body movements and actions translating exactly to onscreen representation is incredible. The situation where the flying disc is up in the air and going to land 2 feet forward and to the left, now you have to actually move 2 feet forward and to the left to catch it and keep it from hitting your platform. That, to me, would be completely awesome. The Tron disc game alone would get me to buy this thing.

One of the issues with Natal is that it needs to see your whole body. This raises another issue with how usable Natal is in practice.

There were positive hands-on reports of Burnout running with Natal, where acceleration is controlled with the feet (as in a pedal). Of course the E3 demo and test rooms (as shown in some articles) were empty rooms with lots of space to "waggle" the body around.

However I doubt this is the case for many people. Some people have cramped gaming rooms (I have to put things away when I turn on Wii Fit), some people have tables or other objects that would hide their feet from a camera placed near their TV.

It's already a bit of a pain for me to put away stuff when I want to play Wii Fit, but I put up with it because I'm actually doing some exercise. However, I'm not so sure I would want to do that every time I want to play a game. Using the example of Burnout, do you think the advantage of playing it without a controller is enough to bother reorganizing your room for Natal? Or do you not even need to? I'm wondering whether most people's homes lend themselves to gaming this way.

I have to move many things when I play Forza with the racing wheel or when I want to get in a game of RockBand. I don't think it would bother me too much.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

No. I can play games where I have to sit down, but once I have to stand up... then there could be problems. Firstly, I would about 2 feet from a 40" TV. Secondly, the TV is at eye level for me when I am sitting on my gaming chair, with my head just above that of a low sofa... and I am over 6 feet, and the TV will barely come up to my waist.

Firstly, it will be hard to look at the TV, secondly, will the camera be able to see all of me?

Nope. I'm an armchair gamer. There will be no re-organizing my game room for any of this jumping around crap.

Imagine PS3, 360 and Wii owners.

They already got wii sensor bar. Now thay have to find space for a big ass camera and even another camera if they jump in motion controls for HD consoles.

Their TV will look like an alien spaceship.
