Forums - Nintendo - My Comprehensive Summary and Impressions on the Nintendo E3 Conference

I'll be honest.  The opening of Nintendo's conference made me quite nervous.  It was exactly what I had joked that it would be.  Flashing across the big screen was clips of a bunch of extremely popular Wii games that I already have played like Mario Kart WIi and Wii Fit.  Impending doom was certain to follow.  I figured that Cammie Dunaway and Reggie would come out and play twiddly winks for an hour and that would be that.

Sure enough, Cammie came out and started talking about innovation and surprises.  She was talking about how the Wii was everyone's game.  I started to have flashbacks back to last year's E3.  Wii Music 2 was sure to be announced, there was going to be a speech about how Mario was slowly going to be removed from Nintendo games, and I was going to scream at the top of my lungs.

Then something happened...

The announcement for New Super Mario Bros. Wii came and it's going to be available this holiday.  Four players can play at once and now there's a propellor suit?  Woo hoo!!!  I nearly jumped out of my skin at that moment but I wanted more...

Next was the announcement of Wii Fit Plus.  It now lets you have a customizable workout with new activities and 15 new balance games.  Not a bad announcement, but I still wanted more...

Then Reggie came out and showed off some new events in Wii Sports Resort and demonstrated how the Wii Motion Plus worked with it.  There is a very unique skydiving intro that you get to play before the game even starts.  Next an archery game was demonstrated where you hold the Wii Remote like the bow and pull the Nunchuck back like the string.  It was a very slick looking control scheme.  Also, a three point contest was shown off where you flick the Wii Remote in a shooting motion.  Add this to the jet skiing game, sword fighting, and the other games that have already been shown, and this looks to be quite a lot of fun on one disc.

Next it was shown that Tiger Woods PGA 10, Grand Slam Tennis 10, Sega Virtua Tennis, and Red Steel 2 would all be available shortly and work with Wii Motion Plus.  Speaking of Red Steel 2, it was shown earlier at the Ubisoft convention and looked quite impressive.  Not only does it measure your sword movements perfectly, but it can also measure your swinging strength.  The new art style of the game was great and it ii said to run at 60 FPS.

Another thing that was featured in the conference was the fact that Nintendo would be releasing some RPGs.  Final Fantasy: The Crystal Chronicles and the big announcement of the new Kingdom Hearts game were made for the Wii.  At this moment a huge explosion was heard coming from the vicinity of Soriku's crotch.  Also Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and the new Golden Sun will be released  for the DS.  Happy times for RPG fans.

Other titles announced for the DS included Jame's Patterson's Women's Murder Club: Games of Passion ( I am pumped for this), Cop: The Recruit ( a new title from Ubisoft), and the Style Savvy Series ( once again pumped).

According to some other sites figures the Nintendo DSi is off to a fast start and has sold over 1 million units in it's first two months.  Games to be released for it are Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again, Wario Ware DIY, and Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.  Also, photos can now be uploaded to Facebook from it.

Next came the moment that I thought that I was having a nightmare.  Satoru Iwata came out and started talking about the Wii Vitality Sensor.  It looks like one of those things that you put on your finger to get a pulse.  If this segment lasted any longer and I was wearing one of those things then my reading would have been off of the charts.  Thankfully, it ended quickly.

Then came the super duper huge announcement of Super Mario Galaxy 2.  All was right with the world again.

Next some "hardcore" third party games were shown.  The Conduit, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, and Dead Space: Extraction have all kinds of things for you to shoot at.

Last, but certainly not least, came the announcement of Metroid Other M which will be worked on by Nintendo and Team Ninja.  It looked all kinds of amazing.  Classic sidescrolling shooter, 3D third person shooter, and a FPS rolled into one is the best way that I can describe it.

Okay.  So let's look at the facts.  Let's look at what Nintendo has released and will release soon this generation for the Wii.  There's only been:  Animal Crossing: City Folk, Brain Age, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, Endless Ocean, Excite Truck, Excite Bots, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, Link's Crossbow Training, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, Mario Super Sluggers, Mario Strikers Charged, Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption, Metroid Other M, Pokemon, Punchout!!, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Wario Land: Shake It!, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, Wii Music, Wii Play, Wii Sports,  and Wii Sports Resort.

But I want more...

Where's Kirby, 1080, Wave Race, F Zero, Mother, Pikmin, Starfox, Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus, Pilotwings, Ice Climbers, and my long awaited sequel to Drill Dozer?

Think of your fans for once Nintendo.

I do agree with you, and I wish they would announce even more. Still, I wish more was third party, but I wouldn't mind a new Star Fox, F-Zero and Kid Icarus at all. Also, Drill Dozer DS would be a definite buy.

tbh, how many people ACTUALLY believed there would be another golden sun?

Golden Sun and Metroid (a Wii version) were the biggest surprises for me. Nice to see a positive response to the conference, but one that also expects improvement.

I agree with you, I want more, but I am very happy with them.

Lol.  I think Vitality it looked quite good.  Better than Boom Blox won't you say?

I know you were joking listing those games but me personally I want Pikmin and Wave Race and F Zero sooner rather than later.  If we can have two Mario Galaxies this gen then why not two Pikmins or Wave Races or F Zeros?  I know Nintendo is saving something for later in the Wiis life but I wish they would release those games now and then release their sequels later in the Wiis life.

Good post, Mr. Bond.

As soon as I saw the first game shown was New Super Mario, I knew this thing was just going to get better.

So now we get to witness the gaming press try to stop the momentum that the Wii will build out of this show, so they can once again declare the Wii dead in hopes of swaying people away from the platform they have chosen to adopt this generation. I'm having all sorts of fun watching some bloggers, who weeks ago said what Nintendo had to do to win this one, now try to spin how Nintendo exceeding what they said have "lost".

Not that any of it matters. Winning the E3 is like winning an event at an after school party. What matters to graduating is your grades, the equivalent of sales in the game industry. So people can declare whatever they like from the sanctity of their blogs, while Nintendo continues to steam roll on over the competition.

It's fun!
