I had the choice between Excite Truck and that 4x4 game. It came with a WHEEL! Worst decision I've made this gen.

Excite Truck failed because it had no multiplayer whatsoever and wasn't Zelda... not to mention the fact that a good chunk of people who picked up a Wii got it solely for Wii Sports and weren't interested in buying anything else at the time.

Excite Bots failed because it's a sequel to Excite Truck minus the trucks, was revealed about a month before release and had no press or advertising (SURPRISE!!!), not to mention it was released on a system whose product inventory is riddled with shovelware and thus it's indistinguishable to the average shopper from all the mounds of crap that populates the Wii section of their local retailer (see above poster's ordeal).

I was curious about Excite Bots until I saw a video of it. It actually looks really obnoxious. I would much rather play a year-old Mario Kart than that.

I really think that a lot of the game's failure in sales was because of the horrible advertising Nintendo did. Not only did they wait forever to reveal it, but they did not do advertising at all in mainstream media.
This is really something Nintendo has to think about, since they literally killed a game which could have been Mario Kart's successor instead.

Excite Truck didn't fail at all.

Excite Bots isn't selling because Wii owners obviously aren't interested in playing the best game to come out for their system this year. They'd rather play Active Life Outdoor Challenge or whatever it's called.

Malstrom fails because Exite Truck dead sold well, and Exitebots i really dont know why this title is not selling.

I thought Malstrom was harsh on Excite Truck. The game was fun for what it was. You could change the music (I uploaded my own clips) so that should not be an issue. And it was challenging.

That being said, considering that Excite Truck was better reviewed than Red Steel and sold less, a case could be made for it not reaching potential. The fact that ExciteBots is even better reviewed and sales have been slow at best points to the fact that (a) no one knows about the game (Nintendo did not advertise it) and (b) no one is buying unknown games in this economic environment.

Excite truck, like excitebike, is an amazing game, those that haven't taken to the franchise are missing out. I hope more people discover the franchise.

That sounds about right to me.  I liked it, and thought it was a lot of fun, but it definitely had a launch game vibe to it.

I'm one of those people who owns Excite Truck but not ExiteBots.  I don't plan on picking it up either.  There are too many great games I haven't bought yet to consider something similar to Excite Truck, especially since I already own it.  I could just play it again if I get the urge.
