Forums - Gaming - Tales Series vs Final Fantasy Series

Which is the better JRPG series? Which one brings the bests story, characters and combat system? Though i'm not a fan of neither series imma go with the FF series. Final Fantasy X FTW though i love Tales of Vesperia and Tales of the Abyss.

The more recent FF games have sucked, but i liked the older ones better then tales.

Turned based battles aren't that fun anymore though

I've only played one fro m both... so... all I can say is that I liked Tales of Symphonia more than Final Fantasy IV.

Suikoden > Both

Although out of the 2 you chose... FF easily.

Final Fantasy wins this confrontation... Tales is an excellent series, but FF usually wins in the story stuff (some FF's have terrible and forgettable stories, so it's not a given. Tales of Symphonia and Phantasia easily outdo the weaker FF's), the FF VII battle system beats every other system in existence, graphically, FF's are overall better (even though I prefer the artstyle of Tales)... musically... both are excellent, but FF nabs this one for me also... Dancing Mad, J-E-N-O-V-A, The Extreme, Premonition, Man With the Machine Gun, Fight With Seymour... you get the picture. Even more so if you listen to the The Black Mages versions of the songs.

My series rankings go like this:

1. Final Fantasy
2. Shin Megami Tensei
3. Tales of

And I expect it to remain so for long, unless FF XIII and vXIII come out terrible.

Xenogears > all of the above!

This.

Tales is a is basically the same themes( racism, Man who wants to save the world by doing something bad to it, meaning of life, I want to be God) and the same cookie cutter characters( Flirt, comedian, the brains, innocent girl who does nothing evil, coolguy/badass ext) over and over and over again. Though FF has fallen from grace it still manages to deeper on all levels than Tales will ever be.

Well, I am currently 33 hours in Tales of the Abyss and it's the only Tales of game I've played. It is solid, I am enjoying it, it's pretty well done and has better production values than most non-FF jRPGs out there.

But nothing about it strikes me as "Wow! that's just amazing!" and yet I always get these impressions whenever I am playing a mainline FF game, be it because of the graphics, music, cutscenes or anything else.

i love mostly all JRPG , mostly , but i'd go with FF since it holds dear memories and got awesome soundtrack.
