Forums - Gaming - When (if ever) do you see Insomniac going multi-plat?

I don't think it's happening for a LONG time, if ever.

Sony consoles have given Insomniac a lot of success. Every single one of their games is a million seller, and several are double million sellers. Ted Price loves Sony, as does the whole of Insomniac. And Insomniac have more than enough money- as I mentioned, all of their games sell well. SCE WWS always makes a profit, it's
just PS3 hardware losing that profit.

In short, they have no reason to go multiplat. If nothing else, Sony can get a contract if Ted Price turns greedy.

The fact that Insomniac are privately owned means that nobody can come in and just randomly buy them out but I also see Sony putting in a bid to keep them as well if Insomniac ever seemed compromised. They don't seem as money oriented as companies like Square Enix and other companies are because probably get a good cut from Sony for their current IP's. I also didn't say that they were huge. Insomniac are one of the U.S.'s 10 best small businesses (have been for 3 years in a row). I just think they are very loyal to Sony for their beginnings.

Well Bingie was in a similar case.....

And in one and a half years since they split from Microsoft, they have only made games for Microsoft consoles.

And in one and a half years since they split from Microsoft, they have only made games for Microsoft consoles.

Becuase of contracts....Halo 4 or whatever  the next Halo game comes after ODST will be made by MS.....

Number of employees isn't the only thing that makes a company valuable, in fact its fairly minor compared to assets, revenue and profit.

Thats why Nintendo is worth a helluva lot of money despite the fact that they have around ~3300 employees (I think?). Insomniac is actually in a far better financial position than Take Two.

On the other hand though, its also possible that Insomniac employees would be adverse to a takeover and leave if bought (ie. Rare) which means that not only do you not gain IP's, you also don't gain talent, just an empty shell of a developer.

So yeah, I don't know what they're worth, but if they got bought and the employees didn't like it, it would be a massive waste of cash.



Around the Network

I sooner expect Sony to buy(or become primary shareholders) for Insomniac, Sucker Punch, and Media Molecule. These three will be very nice additions to Sony's trophy case(Naughty Dog, SOE, Santa Monica, and Team ICO).

Some companies are in it more then just the money. Some actually have loyalty. This is something Sony has benefited from over the years. This cannot be said from all the other free developers who initially made games exclusively for 360. Sony is really good to it's people, enough to make them stay(well.......most of them).

Rath - TT has GTA a franchise that can sell upwards to 25 million copies in one shot... insomniac is nothing close to having anything like that am im fairly sure that TT is worth way more than insomniac because of that. no fucking duh insomniac is in a better financial situation. Sony takes care of everything... its probably an impossibility to losse money when they dont l use t heir own

Bungie has not made a PS3/Wii game in one and a half years since it became independent.

Insomniac has not made a 360/Wii/Xbox/GC/DC/Saturn/N64 game in 15 years of being an independent company.

The only way I can see Insomniac going outside of the Sony platforms is if the big publishers decide that the three platform modle is over with. Other than that they have it to good to ever want to go elsewhere. Sony funds the games and advertising, and Insomniac gives their employees some of the best treatment in all the working world. Plus, they get the inside on Sony's tools, a look at other Sony projects for ideas, and more thanks to their close relationship. That is something I think would end real fast if they ever tried to make a game for both PS3 and 360.



Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
