That's still not a fair comparison, though, as handhelds have historically had lower attach rates that consoles. Regardless of how much money Pokemon makes, the success of the PSP still lies in how much money it makes for Sony.

While that's true to an extent, the PSP has the lowest software attach rate in recorded video game history. You can't just chalk that up to hacking either. There are not nearly enough tech saavy gamers for that to be the only cause of this. The PSP simply does not sell that many games. I don't hack PSP games and yet I still have only bought 8. I have bought almost 30 for my DS now. I use my PSP just has much for roms, but that doesn't mean I'm able to find more games on it. It's main problem is it's still lacking in a lot of genres. Mostly platforming, RPGs, and action-adventure. It also doesn't have games with blockbuster mass market appeal like the DS. No Nintendogs, Pokemon, or Mario.

And?!?! Its Sony first portable. What do you expect from them? Like the software like the PS2? Just chill out and be thankful that Sony was successful in the handheld market. You seem to always say negative things about the PSP lately. O_O

PSP by far is just to easy to get pirated software. The PSP is marketed twards tech savvy gamers. and Tech savvy gamers are the gamers who know how to hack well. I have a PSP and didn't buy a game till 9 months after I got it cause I knew how to hack it even before I bought it. The only reason I bought any games was out of respect for certain devlopers. Valk profile, MGS:PO, R&C size matters, Jeanne D arc, GTA Vice city stories/ Liberty city, Tekken DR, loco roco, and killzone liberation are game i felt worth my cash.

But shouldn't the 360 be aimed at a similar market?  Yet while PSP software sales are awful, the 360s are fantastic.  Is the 360 hack-proof or are the audiences for the 2 systems just that different?  This is something I've wondered about for a while and was wondering if anyone had any theories.

IGN have posted a similar story quoting Sony,

"Sony Computer Entertainment announced on Friday that system managed actual sales of 130,000 units on its first day. This, according to the company, is a new high mark for the system following launch.

In addition, the company states that 30% of PSP-2000 buyers picked up a 1seg tuner. The attachment only works with the new system; owners of older PSP models are left out."

 They also write

"The figures release today aren't the standard sales figures that Enterbrain and Media Create provide every week. We expect to have a better picture of how well the new PSP is doing once those independent figures are available next week."

Sony really need to get of this ass and finish Gran Turismo portable, no other game will drive psp sales in evey market like that would. God of War should do big things in NA when its released.

Funny, Hus made the exact same suggestion. Though it would be a sure fire way to sell PSPs, GT's appeal is huge and on a handheld most people own but perhaps aren't terrible investing in for gamming, it would certainly change their minds.

Sony and Nintendo are doing a great job expanding the handheld market. Mad props to both Nintendo and Sony. I hope to see this happen with the PS3 and Wii, as well.

I think Live + Gamerscore pushes  alot of software as well. Sure you could rent games and get gamerscore, but MSFT has their own little pokemon gott catch em all with this gamerscore thing and a lot of people are just eating it up, thats fof sure.

Still it sold more software than any other handheld just by its numbers , and with that it will probably sell more software in its life than the GC ... I expect the PSP to sell 60 million in its life that ~ 3 times more bthan the GC ... that means that even if the PSPs attach rate is even 3 times as bad as the GC , even than they are evan ... but seeing that the PSP shiped 80 million games in June 07 ... I dont think so ... ( even if the attach rate of the GC was 10-1 ( it was lower ) even than it only sold 200 million softwares ) .

Anyways , back to the topic : if the 130k first day its true ... than nice going for the PSP lite :)

good sales...the PSP has to deal with the monster that is the DS in japan but will end its life at 10-12 million ....hardly a failure

as for games ...in my opinion the PSP has more games and of higher quality than the DS
