Will happen at the same time.

If Sony cuts their price/releases a slim MS will counter by just shoving a 40-60GB HDD into the Arcade, thus making it the new base package.

A 40-60GB HDD probably costs MS like $10-$15 at cost if that. That's a lot easier to take than another $50-$100 pure price cut.

I would agree with you if it weren't for the fact that they have gone through all the trouble of redesigning the XBOX to include internal storage of 256MB or 512MB and quit shipping with the memory card.

Uh yeah ... and? If it's that much trouble to remove the flash memory, just leave it in there. 512MB of flash memory probably costs MS a whopping 50 cents.

Ha.

Judging by the fact that Sony expect the PS3 to sell 13 million this fiscal year, judging by the leaked PS3 Slim images, and judging by a certain Sony executive's recent comments, I think we can expect the $299 PS3 a LONG time before the $199 Pro.

I don't think Microsoft are going to cut the price when they are consistently outselling their competitor (the Wii does not exist, of course). Especially not by $100.

PS3 will cut first and the 360 will follow.

It'll be the PS3 first, perhaps in the next few weeks.

This... but the 360 will follow only if they are loosing ground to Sony.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Honestly, I think the PS3 price cut will come first, but the 360 cut won't come immediately after. Microsoft can afford to ride the wave for a bit, let the spike in PS3 sales hurt Sony even more and possibly kill it outright, and then cut the price once PS3 demand starts to die down a few weeks later.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

$299 PS3. Sony has the slowest selling of the next gen consoles and their fiscal year sales estimate of 13 million isn't happening without a price cut.

Sony will react first by dropping the PS3 price to $299. I believe MS will drop Pro price down to $249.

I actually think that the Xbox 360 will cut first just too see if Sony will follow. Remember, they lost $600 million on Playstation last year and a $Billion for the whole year. Ouch!!!! :O

I think it'll be a while before they drop the pro to $199. MS took a hit but they are selling alot of units. I don't think they want to drop the price. The next price drop is $279 or $249 imo. I think they want a price point above $200 for the pro and they'll just keep increasing the hard drive and throwing in some of their AAA back catalog games whenever they feel pressure.

Unless MS really comes out with some just amazing and compelling mass market games and products at E3 and launches a marketing blitzkrieg with commercials during Desperate Housewives, 24, American Idol type of shows, the Arcade will stay at $199 for a long time.
