Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Punchout gets a A+ from 1up, Will it outsell Killzone 2 in its first week?

Punch Out is more popular than Fire Emblem.

Fire Emblem hasn't passed 500k yet.

And Punch Out has not had a game in over 15 years.

Gosh, I remember people saying that Wii music wouldn't sell a million. Here we have a beloved franchise, about to make a HUGE comeback, and people are like "gee, I don't know if it will sell one or two million?"

Please.

Again I reiterate: 6-10 million lifetime. I think this game will move close to 500k in it's first week.

I'd agree with 6-10M lifetime, maybe closer to 8 or 9M.

Re-cap: looks like I'm right so far about this review being off. It's further than 10% away from the mean. It's only right that the Onion (of all people) balance out the skew.

I think it'll have a modest start like 250-300k for the first month, but will sell for a long, long, long time.

Word of mouth on this game is going to be strong. It has hardcore and casual appeal at the same time much like Mario Kart Wii.

Link's Crossbow Training has hit like 3.5 million, I expect this to match or exceed that.

This is Next Level Games' coming out party. Expect Nintendo to get them under contract for a sequel to Punch-Out! very soon if they haven't already.

Time to see how many old Nintendo fans there are.

This will be the first test of the fanbase age. Are there owners who had SNES or NES? Or are the popularity of games limited to franchises that appeared on every console generation.

My point? Punch out has been MIA for two generations. Does this franchise still have sway over a core audience that probably has never played it before?

Oh yeah. In reality, I won't be surprised if it goes to 12 million, but I'm keeping it a tad conservative.

And what an awesome game!!!!

the original did pretty well. This gen should be able to double it lifetime.

(I'm pretty sure it did around 6M)

Can it sell 1.5 million in its first week?

1.5 million in its first week? Sorry, but I think that  you are a little tired. I know that you want to compare with the Smash Bros sales or something like that, but...

I just played it for 45 minutes. It's already my second favorite game on the Wii after Mario Galaxy and tied with Mario Kart Wii (I am a huge Mario Kart junkie though).

Game is fantastic 1-player title but also is going to be a riot at parties. The animations for the characters is hilarious and the game play is dead on and addictive. Easy enough for anyone in the family to pick up and play but deep enough to keep the more advanced players playing.

The best thing about it is it's very evident Next Level Games really cared about Punch-Out! This isn't like Star Fox on the GameCube that was sorta half-assed by Namco. There are tons of little references and throw backs to the original that will make any old school gamer smile. It's going to be a smash hit with new players and casuals too.

Forget Wii Sports ... this is the game you're going to want to fire up next time you have family or friends over.
