Forums - Nintendo - Article: Why Nintendo is always ‘doomed’

This isn't probably on topic anymore, but since you asked: Yes.

I've been playing video games since late eighties, starting with the NES and original Gameboy. And so far I've been honestly flat-out bored by most games that are prevalent on the "big boy systems".

First person shooters? Played them since Wolfenstein 3D, and the genre seems to have stagnated years ago. The best FPS or FPS-related games I've ever played are Duke Nukem 3D, System Shock 1/2, and Deus Ex. This is 2009, and those games still stand mostly uncontested with only the Valve games and Metroid Prime series giving them a decent run for their money.

Not to mention, I HATE first-person pad controls.

Racers? Don't really care.

Sports Games? Mostly ditto.

Adventure games? Nonexistant.

All strategy games work much better on the PC.

Puzzle and Party games? Doesn't compare to what the Wii has.

Platformers? Ditto.

Retro games? Virtual Console reigns supreme, and the Wii has 100% backwards compatibility with the GC.

Quirky/miscellaneous games? The Wii has more than you can waggle your stick at.

Beat'em ups? MadWorld just came out, and No More Heroes came out last year.

The only categories (well, categories that matter to me) where the big boys seem to have the edge in are RPG's and fighting games, and most of the playworthy (is that even a word?) RPG's end up on the PC eventually anyway. Fighters - a shame, but I can certainly live without them. And Street Fighter 4 is coming to the PC as well, so yeah.

So yes, I find that, as a gamer, Wii gives me more bang for my buck than the other two do.

Absolutely.  If Nintendo had bowed out of the console market, I probably wouldn't have even bothered to buy a console until FFXIII comes out, or the PS3 drops below 300$, or something.

After owning a Wii since launch, I find many of my GameCube favourites unplayable because dual-analogue control is so unbearably clunky, out-dated and last-gen, at least for some genres.  Obviously not everything makes the transition to motion controls as well as some games, but at the same time, it also permits for certain new experiences that aren't possible with a classic game controller (Trauma Centre would be abosolute shit without the Wiimote, but at the same time, motion controls tacked on to Brawl probably wouldn't have worked out so well).

I own about 15 or more retail Wii games, and have pirated at least as many, most of which I would have bought if it weren't an option (and in the case of Disaster, if they were even available in the first place in my region), and I've bought or pirated many great WiiWare titles, and of course, there's the Virtual Console, which I really doubt I even need to talk about.

So yes, I am absolutely 100% happy with my Wii.  I can count the number of games on the HD twins that would make them worth buying for me on one hand, where as there are dozens upon dozens of appealing Wii titles.

My only real complaint about it is the lack of storage space, since I really don't want to go out and buy an SDHC card.  Flash memory's cheap enough, and I'd have preferred if Nintendo could have put in, say, 6-10 GB as opposed to the 512 MB.  But oh well, nothing's perfect.

With respect to graphics, I was completely satisfied with what the GameCube was capable of (hell, playing through Wii de Asobu Metroid Prime 1 was hard to accept that it was a port of a 7-year-old game!), so that really isn't an issue to me.  Online play I don't care a whole lot about either, but as long as major online titles are at least as good as Mario Kart Wii, I'll be satisfied.  Splitscreen is infinitely more enjoyable to me.  Friend codes are annoying, but bearable.

Its still domination, since Snes controlled/was cometitive in more regions than the genesis.

PS3 will never catch up to Wii, Wii is dominant not the 360

The other two console makers are copying nintendo with motion controls, and the massive price drop of the HD twins are entriely due to Wii's dominance

This may be true...alright I give up.

Another question for all of you posting here against me -

You guys really think what Wii is offering is better than what you get with 360/ps3? Like as gamers, is wii the better console in your eyes?

I know its converting the blind and casuals...but I assume if someone is a member on a gaming site they are not casuals. As people that game on a daily basis, is wii the console to own this gen?

Please leave the "people have spoken" and "sales show" out of your explanation...

In your eyes the wii is the gaming system to own this gen?

Yeah.  It has the most exclusives, which means the most variety.  And variety is the best for me 'cuz I'm into really weird games.

For me, yes totally, I don't see a reason to own a PS3 or 360, especially since every worthwhile game on those systems I can get on my PC if I really want

Neither of you are answering my question.

Yes you like Nintendo I get it...you want nintendo to do well, I get that too.

But is the Wii offering the best gaming servce to regular gamers right now compared to the other 2 consoles.

Not asking if its selling...or if the masses are enjoying it. I have the Wii, I already have an answer to my question...

But I'd like to see if people that are posing on these sites really hope all 3 consoles have motion controls and casual freindly games.

That question requires a subjective answer. How I feel about gaming isn't important when the context is about the success or failure of a company in sales

Yes you like Nintendo I get it...you want nintendo to do well, I get that too.

I don't care for Nintendo at all, just making an anti-thesis on any falacy I detect.

But is the Wii offering the best gaming servce to regular gamers right now compared to the other 2 consoles.

Here's that question again, again my opinion isn't everyone elses opinion and you know this.

Not asking if its selling...or if the masses are enjoying it. I have the Wii, I already have an answer to my question...

So what's the point of the last question if that's your logic?

But I'd like to see if people that are posing on these sites really hope all 3 consoles have motion controls and casual freindly games.

The people here don't answer that, history and current trends can answer that but you can't just ask someone and expect to have a good idea of what the mass market believes. Unless your doing a full fledged survey and asking people from multiple backgrounds in a focus group.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

@disolitude

What you're seeing with all of these positive responses is that people who purchased the wii are extremely satified with it. They weren't some how 'duped' into buying them, nor were they tricked by the "slick marketing."

But the larger question is that you refuse to believe how someone could think the wii is somehow better than the 360 or PS3. My answer to that is people want different things from different systems. What may work for some gamers may not work for all.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Yes.

You don't define what "the best gaming service is to regular gamers", disolitude.  You don't define anything for that matter.  Just accept it.  What can be and is considered the best gaming service is infinitely up for debate because it's so subjective.  It's no use arguing over something like that.  Just understand that the masses don't agree with you (as evidenced by Wii sales vs. PS3/360 sales) and move on.

Ok...so some of you have answered my post (while others gave me some chinese riddles to solve).

So people here (not casuals) do think that Wii is the best gaming system this gen. This is something that I wanted to hear as I have a hard time understanding why anyone that playes games on a daily basis would choose the wii the "gaming system of the generation". Don't get me worng, I've had the wii for 2 years and I find it fun to pop in once in a while...and its a cool alternative to when I suck at Halo or street fighter online and I want something stress free.

To me Wii is like an automatic car. Its easy to drive everyone can do it and can be fun when you are with a group of people, but as a driving enthusiast, I will take a manual over an auto any day...

Sony and even ms first party efforts are much better than nintendos for the last year or two. They may not produce the same sales as nintendos products but quality is there...

Other than that the article is right...

The only way that is even close to correct is if you mean, "everything after Galaxy until right now" in which case you are just "arguably incorrect." LBP is the only first party game that approaches the greatness we saw with Galaxy, and still...comeon bro.

Anyway, to sum it up, I disagree. I think Nintendo has vast, vast superiority in their first/second party titles. Even odd games like Fire Emblem are leagues above the oddball games from other "first party" developers. imo

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Which is fine, i don't think anyone's here to debate your personal opinion, but other people feel differently.

I certainly was fine with my GameCube last gen, playing my games while the great, industry defining titles like Guitar Hero, Halo 2, GTA III and its sequels, Devil May Cry, etc, all passed me by without a care in the world. Some simply don't care for what is being offered as the mainstays of PS360 gaming (i'm one of them). If i were a PS360 owner, it would be to taste the fringes of those platforms (stuff like LBP, Phantasy Star Universe, Too Human, Ratchet & Clank), while ignoring the mainstays, like Gears, Halo, Resistance, Uncharted, Motorstorm, etc, completely
