what gameplay aspect did Halo 3 innovate in exactly?

What has Halo 3 Innovated or perfected?

-It made FPS games with humans vs aliens on consoles cool. It's also the most popular console shooter since Goldeneye.

-Duel wielding completely different weapons.

-Jacking vehicles with animations.

-Created the "play it while hating it attitude" where FPS elitists claim they hate the game, but cannot stop playing it.

-Unorothodox multiplayer match types.

-Perfected the use of vehicles while in an FPS world (Tanks). It innovated, by upping that and adding hover vehicles and unorthodox flying machines with their own style of fire.

-Has some of the most eye catching weaponry of any FPS around. Many games have cool weaponry which are novel, but this game has pretty weaponry. Needler= 'Nough said.

-Has rechargable sheilds

- What game do you know that has a f'n gravity hammer?

-Halo is the reason Resistance or KZ2 exists.

-The only console FPS franchise responsible for conversion of PC fanatics to console.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Halo (the first one) responsible for all of this ?

Exaclty, previous Halos are responsible for all of those, what exactly did Halo 3 do individually?  Otherwise if innovation is important shouldn't we tell the OP to go buy one of the previous Halos instead of the third?

edit: and if a gravity hammer is the only true innovation then I think KZ2 can match that.

Halo 3 is only as great as the franchise. Franchise innovations hold Halo 3 to the standard for which Halo 2 and 1 had become accustomed

Indeed, Halo 3 also showed what console games could do online, some of the coolest custom matches ever, replays you can save and upload, and just what an online community could be for a console game.  Halo 1 and 2 innovated and perfected how it played Halo 3 innovated who you played with and what you could do.  Halo has done a lot more then Killzone 2 did as far as innovation, but they are two different types of shooters, geared towards two different types of gamers.

I believe alot of other people think that Halo 3 is definitely not the best game this generation. I do respect your opinion though, as it was a good game.

I'm really not sure I'd give Halo 3 the edge for innovation... it definitely wins the overall fun factor, and it gets helped a lot by its incredible multiplayer options (I love Bungie and Media Molecule for actually understanding how people like to play games). Killzone wins for feeling like something which hasn't been before (even if it's a combination of classes from Team Fortress 2 with every class changed significantly and COD4 with the gameplay less bouncy feeling).

When playing KillZone2, it feels like you're part of an actual WAR.

When playing Halo3, it feels like I'm part of a cartoon.

No offense to Halo fans. Just my opinion ladies and gents.

EDIT: I should also add that the online community is much better in KZ2. Too many little kids playing Halo3 yelling with their pre-pubescent voices over the mics. Terrible.

When playing KillZone2, it feels like you're part of an actual (Scriped WAR) where you cant jump any little area and your FORCED to go the way the game wants you to go.

When playing Halo3, it feels like I'm part of a cartoon that has split screen play, online split screen, even 4 player split screen online and THE best multiplayer options on any system.

L4D and R2 are way better imo.
Also People in KZ2 RARELY have mics, and when they do no one talks.

That is not true. You find on average one anoying person per match but you can mute them so big deal.  But don't worry its a common misconception from people that have never played halo online...

Besides normal people play Halo with their friends so they don't have to worry about little kids

Question: Isn't KZ2 the first FPS to have "mixable" classes? If so, that's innovation right there.

I am a 360 owner, and I bought H3 first day; however, yesterday my best friend came over and brought his PS3, matter of fact, he is still here . I got to play KZ2 on my Hi-def television using the HDMI port and switched on Full RGB coloring or something, and was blown away by KZ2, the warlike atmosphere is better than H3, and I love the realistic controls and animations. Its a very well made game, and it is definitely not generic, even from just the way it controls alone.

PS: Oh, to someone that posted before about H3's bubble shield being innovative, Resistance had something just like that before H3 came out.

Anyhow, its all a matter of preference, but to tell the truth I like them equally because they satisfy a different style of FPS for me. KZ2 is realistic, and H3 is sci-fi, almost arcade-ish. Still play Halo 2 though.

@Garnett, why is it you conveniently omitted the fact that you also have to go where the game (H3) wants you to go, it's just as linear as KZ2.  Bias in the making, that's why I can't stand threads like these.

Wow. This troll thread is getting tons of bites.
