Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN: "Has Nintendo Cooked the Golden Goose?"

lol why do they keep insisting that PS3 and 360 are more inclined to having a price cut! that is insane! wii hasnt had one yet, and is still making high profits

Around the Network

btw these are some numbers in the PS2 era about the same time as the Wii now... Even without any major hit for the wii, it still is well ahead of the PS2.

the funny thing is if you step back and just look at the Wii:

1) 3rd party developers are hating the Wii and are against developing for it because they got caught off guard.

2) media gives them a shit load of crap.

3) a good % of gamers hate the wii because of motion controls.

4) the wii is lets face it a last gen system on steroids.

5) a shit load of shovelware.

with all this bad shit around the wii and yet it is selling so much.

Imaging if those points were positive. Wii sales could of potentially been 80million by now haha.

Wouldn't it seem that, at least up untill recently, none of those points have mattered at all? Wii has had a mass demand, and production has been the only thing that has been too low. There's no chance it could have been at 80M. (Yes, I know that was meant partially as  a joke).

When I write Fact: in one part of the post, and opinion: (or a similar word), it's not because I can then say "my opinion can't be wrong". It is to inform what part is pure facts, and which part I try to draw a conclusion in.

Nintendo is ignoring the online media like IGN for announcing third partie exclusives and their games, Excitebots wasn´t announced in IGN, Gamespot or 1up, it was announced in Nintendo Power and we can say the same for a lot of games.

They were unable to predict the new Zelda for DS, Red Steel 2 was known because the magazine that had the exclusive talked about it months before it appeared in the issue but they were unable to see the Rabbids game. If at the end EDGE will be the ones who will reveal Pikmin 3 instead of IGN wait for another torrent of crying.

This is why I took out a subscription to Nintendo Power. I was tired of the Wii being "ignored" by the other segments of the gaming press.

Game Informer (which I get because it comes with the discount card for free) has been against the Wii since Nintendo would not provide it with advanced details for a pre-launch story.

The on-line sites (and most of the magazines) cater to a certain type of user -- while ignoring many types of Wii users covered by the Blue Ocean strategy.

(The same -- to a lesser extent -- appears to be true about the DS. However, since it is so dominant and since I don't own one directly (my son has one), I cannot say that I have paid as much attention to that sitution).
