Forums - Gaming - RUMOR - Apple looking to takeover EA?

Doesn't Nintendo also have something like 20+ billion on hand?

ot: If this did happen this would be a pretty big strike against their largest competitor.
The SIMS 3...Apple Games

P.S Should we be calling Apple, Apple or Mac? is the company called Apple and the comps are Mac? Iv never really known.

They have a little less than 12 billion in cash and equivalents so it is possible to buy Apple at 6.8 billion market cap...

However, that is very different than what Apple usually does; which is, Apple hordes cash away.

https://www.etrade.wallst.com/v1/stocks/fundamentals/balancesheet.asp

you need some help, apples cap is    117.62 billion  cap    and apples cash on hand is  25.65 billion  http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=Aapl

as i said above more then enough to buy EA, take two, and acti-bliz ..... all at the same time..... in cash

Sorry, the 12 is cash in this quarter.  The 24 (etrade) or 25 (yahoo) is the total cash.

My apologies.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

No prob. It can be a bit confusing if you don't own one of their computers. Typing this on a Mac btw lol.

I don't think this makes too much sense unless Apple is trying to support all all the consoles and expand into iPod. EA will be valued based on its total cross platform revenues.

From a shareholder perspective this would be too much of a cost to take them over and go with a single console. In the end the shareholders vote and they would not agree to a massively inflated price based on multi-platform sales unless the plan was to continue in that direction.

Much truth in this post. No matter the amount of money they have on hand buying EA and all its holdings would be a substantial chunk of change, and the reason they are worth the money they are is because they develope for everything under the sun.

No board would allow Apple to drop the change on EA and then move EA to a single conosle publisher, they would see it as too large a risk that EA's value would drop, and make the purchase a bad deal and determental to their own business portfolio.

Especially since besides the Sims, Madden is pretty much their cash cow, and the NFL would rather admit they are hopelessly corrupt than allow their money intake on the Madden game franchise be limited to one console audience.

If Apple decides to buy EA, and I doubt it, alot. They would buy it just to have an in house developer for the iPhone/iTouch and MAYBE a future console, but continue allowing them to develope for everything else, including the 360 and PC's.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

Just read this... wow, would this change things if it was to happen!

But... I don't think its a good fit at all:

1/ EA is multiplatform, and that is their strength. Lose that (move to one platform only), and you lose 80%-90% of total revenue. Not smart.

2/ Apple do NOT do software, OR write games. They make hardware/services. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, that Apple would *buy* a really big games developer.

...

If Apple intend to put a console out (and this *is* the perfect time for it, or even for a handheld) all they need do to is "fund" exclusive, self-owned IP for their platform from existing developers. There is no need to *buy* them. Plus they already have lots of Apple compatible titles.

Imagine all ID titles coming to the Apple console/handheld...

All that said, they could invest heavily in EA - like a 20%-30% stake...

1) Who says that they would make exclusive games? Infact, who even mentioned that this would imply that Apple is making a console? I could see Apple buying EA and letting them still make games for the Wii, DS, PSP/2/3. Then it would still have some boost to Apple's hardware sales due to PC's having less games and Macs/Iphones having more, and it would also likely be profitable for Apple, as EA starts to get its act together.

2 Apple is one of the leading software companies in the world. Mac OSX being their biggest product, Itunes and quicktime being their other 2 big ones. As for why they would buy a software company. To break the image of 'Macs have no games'

No way in hell is this happening.

What better way to spend $20 million than chucking it at a floundering, pathetic attempt at a developer?
