Just read this... wow, would this change things if it was to happen!
But... I don't think its a good fit at all:
1/ EA is multiplatform, and that is their strength. Lose that (move to one platform only), and you lose 80%-90% of total revenue. Not smart.
2/ Apple do NOT do software, OR write games. They make hardware/services. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, that Apple would *buy* a really big games developer.

If Apple intend to put a console out (and this *is* the perfect time for it, or even for a handheld) all they need do to is "fund" exclusive, self-owned IP for their platform from existing developers. There is no need to *buy* them. Plus they already have lots of Apple compatible titles.
Imagine all ID titles coming to the Apple console/handheld...
All that said, they could invest heavily in EA - like a 20%-30% stake...
