| shams said: Just read this... wow, would this change things if it was to happen! But... I don't think its a good fit at all: 1/ EA is multiplatform, and that is their strength. Lose that (move to one platform only), and you lose 80%-90% of total revenue. Not smart. 2/ Apple do NOT do software, OR write games. They make hardware/services. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, that Apple would *buy* a really big games developer. ... If Apple intend to put a console out (and this *is* the perfect time for it, or even for a handheld) all they need do to is "fund" exclusive, self-owned IP for their platform from existing developers. There is no need to *buy* them. Plus they already have lots of Apple compatible titles. Imagine all ID titles coming to the Apple console/handheld... All that said, they could invest heavily in EA - like a 20%-30% stake... |
1) Who says that they would make exclusive games? Infact, who even mentioned that this would imply that Apple is making a console? I could see Apple buying EA and letting them still make games for the Wii, DS, PSP/2/3. Then it would still have some boost to Apple's hardware sales due to PC's having less games and Macs/Iphones having more, and it would also likely be profitable for Apple, as EA starts to get its act together.
2 Apple is one of the leading software companies in the world. Mac OSX being their biggest product, Itunes and quicktime being their other 2 big ones. As for why they would buy a software company. To break the image of 'Macs have no games'
