Forums - Gaming - Why third-parties always find an excuse to not work on Nintendo systems?

If I was a game developer I would consider the following:

1) make 1 game for 3 platforms as the 3 are hardcore gamers platforms

2) make 1 game for a system which is known to be shifting mostly shovelware

3) do a combo of 1+3

If I make a sports game, will ninth allow me to compete against their own franchises?

If I make a hardcore game, will it sell enough to make my money back?

If I make a game for the 3 platforms, I have 3 times the chance of making my money back and the potential to make 3 times the profit.

To me, it is a no brainer. I would go with the 3 since it is less time consuming, less risky and possibly can make me the most money.

If it's your own money on the line, your thinking takes a radically different approuch.

What I don't understand is what ninty are doing with their monies? Why font they do what Sony has started this gen, start releasing quality inhouse ip's. It's not like they don't have enough money and if what ninty supporters say is true ( cheaper to make a wii game), then ninty should be blasting out quality titles from their oven!

People are seriously over-thinking this.

This isn't a Wii phenomenom, its something which has afflicted Nintendo systems for 3 generations.

I think the best answer therefore is: Nintendo doesn't work well with third parties. Its more Nintendos fault than the fault of the third parties.

This man knows his stuff.

Take it easy champ....  you have Mad world, No more heroes, deadly creatures and de blob... all sucumbed to the mighty that is "Guiness world records: the game" or "Jullian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum".

I stand corrected it was not the best example, but my point is still valid.

You do realize that Jullian Michaels and Guiness World Records also outsold HD games like Valkyria Chronicles, Banjo-Kazooie, Tales of Vesperia, and many more.

Right?

That's exactly the point.

Unless you're making a game like Jullian Michaels or Guinness World Records, or Carnival Games, or a game from a big brand, chances are your game won't sell very well on Wii.

Then it's kind of a silly one, since the examples I cited are good to fantastic HD games (two of which were from recognized franchises...) which were outsold by the aforementioned, inexplicably hated games. =^/ Seeing as how the original point was that good traditional games were outsold by the two titles mentioned, with the implication that such traditional titles would have done much better on another system, I'd say you don't have much of a point.

Cuz they're scared to compete with Nintendo games since developers like to create half-assed games that will maximize profits.

This, and most 3rd party games don't sell well on the Wii unless they are casual games or are some type of rhythm game.

Thats the truth, and a very sad one.

Yes! but do you realize that this games wont sell on any other system?

Thats what the wii sells, it sells Fitness party animalZ. Developers wont put millions on the line to bring a "AAA" that gets outselled by a cheap shovelware.

3rd parties are working the hell out of the wii... just not how us gamers would want to.

PSN = vic_haste

Because its probably easier as of now to creade a HD multiplat title..

What devs are going to have to come up with a solution to is the spiralling cost of HD game development.

We're left with the interesting case of increasing revenue and decreasing porfits.

Well, Valkyria Chronicles, Banjo-Kazooie and Tales of Vesperia would probably have sold even worse on Wii, so we have no way of knowing that, I suppose.

But let's take another example: Call of Duty: World at War. 5.4 million on 360, 3.22 million on PS3, 1.12 million on Wii. This is actually a comparison we can make. Why is it that, despite the fact that the Wii has well over double the PS3's userbase, the PS3 version outsold the Wii version almost 3:1? And why did the 360 version outsell the Wii version well over 4:1?
