Forums - Nintendo - Why Nintendo hasn't mandated that online games use WiiSpeak

Friend codes are one of the best ideas in online gaming, they were just implemented badly.

There should be a single code for your Wii, not individual codes for different games
Then it is up to the devs to have 'with anyone' and 'with friends' modes, and allow you to turn off things like chat for 'with anyone'

Then there is no inconvenience, and you don't have to put up with listening to idiots whilst playing online

One problem with Wii Speak is that only one person can talk at a time or at least what I have experienced with Animal Crossing online. If both people are trying to talk at the same time it is just a mumbled mess with no one understanding each other. I am not sure how it works with 360 or ps3.

Another problem is that some people's mic pick up on their tv surround sound or just tv speakers. You hear a lot of echoing which the Wii Speak Channel tries to fix but it is still present for some people (looking at you john_lucas!).

If they include Wii Speak in any game there always should at least be an option to turn it off due to people not wanting to hearing little whining kids or someone's messed up mic. Another option should allow you to choose who you want to mute and who to hear which isn't available in Animal Crossing.

I dont think they have it because they are afraid of child molesters. It was said in a report that almost all adult males that were on Animal Folk: City Crossing were there to hunt for young children to molest of course (google it is all over the place).

So yea, basically if you are a single adult male that owns a wii there is a chance that you are a sick freak.

I always thought it suspicious how an adult male could like the wii better than the HD twins. Just never made sense now it does. So all you adult male wii fans, well there is a chance that you rape kids lol.

What you've spoken to the great John Lucas?  Lucky thing.

@tuoyo, haven't seen him on AC in a few weeks but I played with him on wifi on AC a few times.

@jpcsfsd, that is a pretty harsh generalization. I doubt that even 1-3% actually do that. My friends list is pretty much full of people that are 20+ (most of them being girls that have boyfriends). It gets pretty funny sometimes when they are both in the room cracking jokes and talking about crazy shit!

This makes a lot of sense, about creative freedom and whatnot.

Although yes, they do intervene a lot on 2nd-party projects, but i don't think they do so to any particularly invasive degree. They're just there to make sure their properties don't get wrecked.

Why does it smell funny to you? The philosophy sounds good to me.

The philosophy sounds all well and good...I just don't think Nintendo actually adheres to it. We already know that Miyamoto interjected himself into second-party games like Starfox Adventures and Metroid Prime (usually for the better, of course), which tells me that Nintendo's second parties likely have a much shorter leash than their competitors' counterparts.

retro is 1st party.

They're owned by nintendo and they're not allowed to make games for other consoles, nothing about them is 2nd party.

Technically you're right, but many who observe Nintendo tend to regard them as 2nd party, merely to differentiate them from the EAD Groups, who are called 1st-party

True. I just have a hard time thinking of them as being first-party, for whatever reason. But you're correct.

It is the same on the 360.  If more than one person is talking at the same time, it is very difficult to understand anything.  This problem isn't limited to online communication though.  The same problem exists in the real world.  If two or more people are talking at the exact same time, it is tough to understand either of them.
