We already know that Miyamoto interjected himself into second-party games like Starfox Adventures and Metroid Prime (usually for the better, of course), which tells me that Nintendo's second parties likely have a much shorter leash than their competitors' counterparts.

retro is 1st party.
They're owned by nintendo and they're not allowed to make games for other consoles, nothing about them is 2nd party.
