The Wii is now a few months away from turning 3 years old, and despite being the market leader, outselling both HD systems on a regular basis, it still doesn´t have a library worthy of the clear leader...now, opinions are opinions, and there are a lot of people who prefer the Wii´s library over the others, but what I mean by the title is in relation to the effort and consideration 3rd parties have always given to previous market leaders.
The NES, SNES, PS1 and PS2 were all leaders in their respective generations, and 3rd parties always put their "big, AAA games" on those systems...the SNES, in particular, was to me the very best a Nintendo system could offer (and it´s in my opinion the best system ever)....amazing 1st party titles (that has never changed) + amazing 3rd party titles...practically all the major 3rd parties were putting their AAA content on the SNES...same for the NES, PS1 and PS2.
Now, this current generation has been weird, as putting it simple..the first generation where the market leader isn´t getting the same attention from 3rd parties all previous leaders had...so, we´ve heard it all, 'everyone was caught with their pants down' (true), 'can´t compete with Nintendo´s titles', blah blah blah....but if that´s the case, how come the SNES was so heavily backed by 3rd parties?...the DS is, the GBA was, why can´t the Wii?
Anyway, going into the next generation, maybe a lot of devs and publishers will be expecting a much easier win by Nintendo, therefore putting their best efforts on Ninty´s next home system, maybe bringing us 'the new SNES', the era where you could play Nintendo´s 1st party titles and 3rd parties´ best contents on a single machine.
What do you think?
