If I were a Palestinian, I would dismantle the fiction called the "Palestinian Authority," ending the show called "the peace process" and sending away the "contributing nations."

Why not just eliminate the fiction called Palestinian?

There is no Palestinian language, culture, ethnic group, or practicaly anything else, they are Arabs that just hapen to be living there.

Palestine is an ethnic group and has its own culture.  Just because they speak Arabic and there isnt a Palestinian language doesnt mean they arent their own group.  Morroco and Syria speak the same language, so they should be the same country.  America doesnt have its own language, maybe we should rejoin the United Kingdom.

The word Palestine itself is derived from Philistine, and is pernounced that way in Arabic (I really dont know why we call it Palestine, though that was the Roman name for the region).  The Philistines have been there since before the Hebrews moved in, and should have more rights to Palestine (Philistine) land than the European Jews we put there after World War II.

The obvious answer is for Palestine to be given its own country without being occupied or dominated by Israel.  Israelis and Palestinians are too different and there is too much bad history for anything good to ever come out of the continued Israeli occupation of Palestine.

The Philistines are extinct, and they were a non-Semitic people. Modern so called Palestinians have nothing to do with the ancient Philistines. Palestinians are Arab immigrants that came to the region several hundreds of years after the Jews were cast out of Israel by the Romans in 135 C.E.

In Arabic, Palestine is called Philistine and Palestinians are called Philistines.  Its a direct relationship to the Philistines that lived in the area during the time of the Bible.

Palestinians (both Muslim and Jewish) have been living in the region since before the Roman Empire.  Many Jews stayed in Roman Palestine despite the Diaspora, and over time most of them converted to Christianity and then Islam.  Just because people change language and religion doesnt mean somebody else had to come in and they went out.

haha, you are right and wrong. The reason Palestine in arabic sounds like filistin is because there is no letter 'P' equivalent in the arabic language. so 'P' is usually pronounced with an 'F' sound or 'PH' sound. The Philistine people you are thinking of in the Bible are not Semetic origin as Jews and Arabs are. Biblical philastines are long gong my friend. They were actualy people who originated from phoenician areas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philistines

Palestinians as a nation/cultural identity didn't come about until around the late 1800's. However, Arabs have been the majority population in the area since about 300 AD.

Where did you think the word Palestine comes from?

You people have a lot of problems thinking about the progression of population.  The Philistines didnt just disapear, the Jews didnt just disapear, Arabs didnt come into an empty area and populate it all by themselves.  In actuality, modern Palestinians are the decedents of Philistines, Jews, and Arabs.  The Palestinians and their ancestors have been living in Palestine since the beginning of human history.

The Philistines became Canninites.  Then what happened to the Canninites?   No one knows.  They were conquered by the Jews if you believe the bible... then... no one knows... really.

They could just as eaisly be Jewish people now.

Really as far as I know the Philistines and Canninites were Greek anyway.

oh for the love of god.

My minor is in Middle Eastern History. I have take numerous history classes on the region beyond annoyance. Philistines from the bible we greek, pheonician, white. NOT SEMETIC, i.e. not arab or jewish or their ancestors.

The earliest reference to modern Palestine as a cultural identity is in the 1800's. Not romans or anyone else before then. Before that it has always been part of some other empire; roman, persian, arab, and to a lesser extant christian warlords (crusaders). Granted under the Christian, Byzantium rulers it was called Palestinia I and II, but that was purely due to biblical names, not because those living there identified themselves as a separate culture.

When the Romans kicked the Jews out, they did the same thing they always do. They mass moved people from all around their nation. Jews out others in and so on. over the next couple of hundred years Arabs kept moving in as they did throughout the entire region until they were the dominant culture in the 300's, mostly Christian at this time. In the 600's with the rise of Islam the Arab majority revolted the Roman rulers and accepted Islamic rule.

If you don't believe me search any archeological/historical resource you wish. Biblical Philistines and modern Palestinians or (filistinis in arabic) are NOT the same people by any measure. Hell, modern Jews and Palestinians are far closer in lineage than biblical Philistines are to any of them.

I also have a minor in the same subject, except mine gave me more knowledge than 'there is no p sound in Arabic.'

So the Philistines just magically disapeared?  They have no descendents, they didnt mingle with Hebrews, Arabs, Romans, and so forth who came into the region.  That not only goes agaisnt history (which you claim to have some knowledge of) but simple common sense would tell us that the Philistines were integrated into the peoples who conquered them.  And thats exactly what happened in history.

And so what if Palestine has been a part of another empire for a long period of time, that doesnt take away their cultural identity and right to the land they've lived on for thousands of years.  There are countless other ethnic groups that have been ruled for long periods of time but no one would consider taking away their identity or rights because its not as controversial as the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict.

If I was Palestinian I would make peace with Israel for the sake of future generations. Terrorism is doing absolutely nothing except making their lives miserable and it has no real chance of succeeding.

I was thinking that the Philistines were integrated into Assyria, not sure though.

Regardless, the Assyrians, Babylonians, and Hebrews all integrated other people into their own.  Though the Hebrews were more violent in that integration.  Using the Bible as a source, intermarriage with Philistines and Canaanites was a problem for early Israel and Hebrews often made captured Canaanite women into wives and slaves.  And slavery back then is much different than we think of it now, slaves and free people often intermarried, you could sale children into slavery, and so forth.

You claimed that Philistines and Palestinians were same people, not that they intermarried/mingled with all neighbors. I stated that Biblical Philistines were actually greek origin and not semetic (Arab Jew) Of course some biblical philstines became part of their neighbors, but, your assertion that modern palestinians and philistine were the same is just wrong.

The only reason the names are the same is because of Byzantium Christian rulers and the maps/names they gave the area based on their knowledge of Old Testimate stories.
