Forums - Sales - Interesting year to date YoY Japanese hardware sales, PS360 up Wii down

@ seece.
The PS3 will probably be down YOY at some point in the near future.
But when FF13 hits at christmas, it will sky rocket.

360 should be up YOY all year

X360: +237.5%

Talk about numbers that go Sky rocketing, or better yet... Star Ocean warp driving :]

That percentage is a little misleading.  As noted in the OP it is so large because the 360 numbers were so small.

I think it's very interesting that both the HD consoles are showing growth - but it's the PS3 growth that seems more sustainable to me.

360 has grown from nothing to weak numbers, which is an achievement in itself, but required enormous effort in terms of exclusive titles for what in the big scheme of things is a small jump in true numerical units.  I really doubt it can continue to see incremental jumps (which is what it needs) as the weekly sales are already below 10K a week despite the large number or JRGPs on the platform.

PS3 on the other hand, due to local preferences, is seeing a much bigger jump with each exclusive title and clearly gets the biggest jump from popular titles like RE5.

Still, looks like Japan is going HD from those YoY - and MS is definately gone from dead in the water to toehold.

But the PS3's YOY % isn't sustainable, it got a big boost due to FF demo, in a couple of weeks it will be back down to making a YOY loss whilst the 360 will still be up YOY.

uh... no the only reason Xbox gone that far is Star Ocean, and now people bought star ocean so its going back down as for the ps3, i dont know, if the Final fantasy magic continues then its going up and up

The PS3 will be getting a decent stream of titles this year which are likely to sustain it in the region (including former 360 jRPG timed exclusives).  The 360 simply doesn't get as large a boost as the PS3 does from exclusive, popular titles - ergo the PS3 rise is more sustainable vs 360 and will be based on larger unit boosts.

FF will also be out before end of 2009 in Japan so it's pretty obivious which platform in that region is going to bound ahead by the end of 2009.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

SO was nearly 2 months ago ... and 360 sales have risen this past week or so. And sales arn't going to rise for the PS3 next week or the week after .... basically what you just stated was what you WANT to happen not what is going to happen.

Wow. Look at 360s number. No big releases this year except Star Ocean 4.

The problem is that the 65% loss for the wii isn't being made up by 360 and PS3, it's not even close. sure the % numbers looks huge for 360 and ps3, but in real numbers they are not. The wii is down massively as well as the PSP and there is nothing making up that void.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

In the grand scheme of things... all hardware is down?? That sucks...

Yeah, I think Wii+PS3+360 combined weekly sales will be significantly lower than Wii sales alone during 2008 for the foreseeable future.

It'll be interesting to see if the Wii can get out of this slump in a sustainable way, or will the market saturate at a much lower level than the previous generation?

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

why do people think im a Ps3 fanboy ? O_o; is it my avatar?

i was saying people buying a X360 mainly cause of Star Ocean, and Star ocean games remain on high demand, but not as much as Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

yeah that s good the HDs are going to start to pick it up WW in the years to come they still have alot to offer this is just the sign of that
