I loled does the OP even know best buy is having a sale?

Sales are for popular games to increase store traffic. You people have no idea how sales work if you think they are used on poorly selling games to get rid of them. That's price cuts and clearance.

Its 4th week sales are better than its 2nd week sales. That's incredible and rare. There's no reason whatsoever to call this game a bomb. All signs point to a million + seller at this point. It's also got a much lower budget than the PSP GTA games (note, I'm not saying it's worse. It's actually much better), and won't need to sell as many units to make money.

If the reason is to try to bash Nintendo, that's all the reason the fanboys need.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

No matter how good games such as GTA Chinatown Wars on the DS or Madworld, etc. are on the Wii, it often seems like the sales numbers end up being extremely low considering the size of the userbase.  This is an important lesson that IMO developers need to be aware of.  Simply looking at the number of consoles sold is not good enough justification to make certain games.  You have to know your audience.  No matter how good GTA on the DS is, it's the wrong audience.  This becomes a self perpetuating problem.  A developer puts out a "hardcore" game, it sells poorly and it reduces the likelihood of them putting out more "hardcore" games.  Therefore, the system has a hard time attracting "hardcore" gamers which is why the game sold poorly in the first place.

Such a highly reviewed game from a MAJOR franchise, should not be down to almost half price already.

We could go under the idea that sales faltered from it being on the DS or

We could go under the idea that most of the GTA fans don't view it as a true GTA game because it's no third person. I have already heard from people on the site that play GTA games say would rather buy a thrid person GTA not a 2d GTA game. So if the GTA fans aren't considereing this as part of the major franshise because of it's view why do they feel inclined to buy it?

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

fanboys are pulling numbers out is their only saving grace. sure vice city and liberty cities sold well. but u forgot to mention that those games been out for almost 3-4 years while chinatown wars been out over a month. and please stop using the large console base argument. ps2 has 140mill userbase and each game needs 0.72% of the users to buy a game to be a million seller but thats not the case. ps2 best selling game is san andreas with about 18 mill but wii already has wii fit beating that with about 1/3 of the userbase of ps2.

Those other games you mentioned at BB are old or "meh" games. It is surprising to see something as new as GTA:CW so cheap so fast.

Dokomodake is not meh is actually pretty good. They have few new releases on PS3 and only one good game on the 360 section (Command and Conquer 3, released 4 months ago)

Not saying that GTACW bombed or not, but your argument is pretty weak.

I never heard of Dokomodake and I'm a hardcore gamer, I would actually like to know what it is, maybe you can tell me, but the point is, it obviously does not have the GTA appeal.

What are the "few new releases on PS3"?

C&C: RA3 was released for the 360 last November, 6 months ago.

The difference between a "sale" and a "price cut" is... semantics. We know from numbers so far that the game isn't so popular that they can draw tons of foot traffic by slashing the price.

Not that the game is a bomb. I still think it will sell a few million. But even 5-million is sort of a yawn-inducing number for the GTA franchise, which is probably why they moved the series to DS. Who knows why they decided to make an old-school top-down game.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

It's a shame really, the game is so good.

Er, I have to add Sony bias...

This is only the start of the DS failing, the PSP will sell 10million units per month from now on and Nintendo will close down.

you know i went in to pick up some games and felt like it was a scam all the copies they had on saturday were gone ( for IU it was 20 copies) before the store opened, and rain checks listed it at the presale price of 39.99. there was also no way to order it online. i was kinda real pissed....
