Of all the Japanese non-gamers I know (which is quite a lot, considering my mom is Japanese and go there almost every year) most of them never heard about Final Fantasy, but all know about Pokemons, be it games, tv show or the trading cards.

We all know Halo is more popular than Killzone in America because Halo simply destroys Killzone in sales. Have you ever been to Japan? Do you know any non-gamer Japanese from Japan? You sound like you are saying all this purely based on your own speculation. |
It sounds moreso like stereotypes.

So what other evidence you need if sale numbers don't say much? Do you know that there are 11 Pokemon movies since 1998 (one every year) and most of them are among the Top 10 selling movie in Japan for the year? Final Fantasy brand might be popular with gamers. It is in no way "a more famous trademark than Pokémon in Japan".

I think we can safely say that it's a bigger trademark, because apparently, you don't seem to know how huge Final Fantasy is in Japan. The hype before release is extremely high, and when it's released, it crushes anything. There's a reason it was the most anticipated game in Japan for 15 months in a row.

You're really hurting yourself right now. The highest first week is Final Fantasy VIII at 2.5 million. The second highest is Dragon Quest VIII at 2.2 million. However, that's a little decieving. Let's have a look. Final Fantasy VIII:
Dragon Quest VIII:
12,203 This is where things get interesting. This is the ONLY game ever to sell more than a million copies in two weeks. Dragon Quest VII:

Interesting, and that's what I said - Final Fantasy is bigger! More people bought it, it was more hyped. Just crazy. That's why I think Final Fantasy will win...

Again. My question to you is... have you ever been to Japan?
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

But not just the sales, but among the people, as well!

Why is that significant? 15 months in a row among people in Japan is something more important...

@Outlawauron Don't even bother, I'm almost certain TheSolider00 is doing it on purpose now.
