More people bought it, it was more hyped. Just crazy. That's why I think Final Fantasy will win... I was talking about the first week - this is the significant part. In the end, Dragon Quest may win, but that's just all casuals that want to test the game. But regarding crazy hype and launch, Final Fantasy is bigger and a more famous name in Japan, in my opinion.   Oh sorry, then its true. FF is bigger/more popular than DQ/Pokemon.   Also, I think you underestimate the greatness of the franchise in the country. The discussion would have been better if you knew how famous the name Final Fantasy is there. You'd be surprised. Go to Japan and ask anyone about Pokémon, and I think you'd be lucky to get a response, if it isn't a gamer or so. Now, ask about Final Fantasy, and they'll tell you it's that extremely successful series in Japan with massive sales that everyone looks forward to. But then again, everybody has their opinions... I'm not sure how big FF is in Japan, but to think noone knows about Pokemon is Japan...

Well, we can discuss all we want about Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, that's one thing, but to compare those two with POKEMON?????

Saying that Final Fantasy is more famous than Pokemon in Japan (or everywhere) is completely wrong... and i'm just talking about the games, now add to the mix the cards, the anime, the manga, everything, Pokemon is one big ass cash cow...

i find it stupid to believe that Final Fantasy on Ps3 is going to sell more than Final Fantasy on Ds (and therefore more than DQ on Ds)

If by THE BIGGEST you mean "The biggest JRPG franchise", wrong, Pokemon is the biggest.

If by THE BIGGEST you mean "The biggest franchise overall", wrong, Mario is the biggest.

ROFFLE! What a hilarious thread! Final Fantasy IS NOT bigger than Dragon Quest and DQ9 is going to take a big steamy dump right on FF13's sales.

..and thats why japan has ordinances forbidding the release of a dragon quest game on any day but a week day.
