Unless one's job is related to games, one should not spend company times reading games news!

Yeah because one is so much more productive when bored ;)

One  has to to be productive at all. I bet with you that there are many people that would like take his place and doesn't care about vgchartz at all.

Around the Network

lol my work blocks pretty much 80% of the internet.

Try using firefox portable on a usb key, it gets past our filter as firefox encrypts the data so the filter doesn't know if it is a legit thing or not.

I really didn't want this thread to turn into a "is it right to slack off at work". Sigh....

I don't slack off, I would just prefer companies trust their employees a little more. It doesn't take a very smart manager to know who's giving their best at work and who's not. And as our IT terms say, we are allowed to use the office internet access for private purposes to a small extent. I just think it is wrong that our job now says it's OK to read CNN, or CNET, or Entertainment Weekly, but not IGN.com.

Or it is OK to read Dilbert at work (we even have a Dilbert link on our intranet), but not Penny-Arcade.

Many companies do want to trust their employees to be responsible.  But the fact is that, as I mentioned elsewhere on this post, many employees will abuse this trust if they think they can get away with it.   Perhaps you don't slack off, but what about the other 8 people who browse forum incessantly while on the job?
