Forums - Sales - First day sales in Japan (4/23) - MHG Wii, Killzone 2, Disaster Report 3

Depends on what you consider big...

End of Eternity, Bayonetta, Tales of Vesperia are all likely 300k+ title's in Japan which should move some hardware.

Isn't Vesperia a port of a 360 game that was bundled with the 360 last year?

Namco is releasing a new Tales game this year, but it's Tales of Graces for the Wii, not PS3.

MHG did great first day numbers. Ignore the whining Sony fans - 92k first day is a great performance.

Killzone 2 did solid first day numbers too.

I'm a Sony fan but also a Nintendo fan.

@Darc Requiem

Hardware sales say otherwise. Nintendo has to pull the facts together, meaning to the rest of the world as well, because besides the Wii Resort there's nothing new being released from their side. Nice and all that the Wii is still selling, but the ones owning the darn thing, want games. Best games are still coming from 3rd party devs.

I expect some good stuff for this year. However, 2010 will be THE year of big 1st party games. The only reason they haven't released anything significant in a while is because they released most of that stuff earlier in the Wii's life and now they're working on new installments. In 2010 I see...

-Zelda Wii
-Pikmin 3 (could be in 2009 though, you never know)
-New Monolith Soft games (RPGs and other genre games)
-New Paper Mario
-Mario Party 9

...At the very least. They can release other stuff too.

---

Anyway, I sense the FEAR in this thread :P

8 months to go..Good luck!

8 months? No not really. They're gonna have stuff this year, just the bulk is next year.

Just eye balling what they have left, the Wii's 2nd half 2009 could look like this in Japan:

Wii Sports Resort

Monster Hunter 3

Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers

Wii Fit Plus (?)

Tales of Graces

Samurai Warriors 3

Pikmin 3 (?)

Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics

They actually have some third party support in Japan for the first time in ages coming up.

Zelda I seriously doubt is happening this year and even if it is, that's really not that big of a franchise in Japan. There's always a chance Mario Party 9 drops this year, but looking at the above list, I think maybe Mario Party DS 2 is more likely this year and Mario Party 9 next year.

The PS3 is the same price the PS2 was, the Wii is more expensive than the GameCube.

Both Sony and Nintendo are in trouble in the console relam if they do not get much better release schedules.

What does Sony have for the rest of the year now? FF13 and ... ? That's not exactly a recipe for success their sales will soon drop back to the 8k-14k levels just like what happened with MGS4.

Apart from FFXIII

Bayonetta

End of Eternity

ToV

Tekken 6

possibly GoW III/GT5

bunch of smaller stuff

Wow, sounds like some people are desperate to make MHG look bad. I'm looking at you, DMeisterJ. Lol.

The BuShA owns all!

I think you will see for the first time new Wii hardware and controller colors in Japan this year also. Probably the week Monster Hunter 3 launches.

MH3 Hardware Bundle probably isn't a bad idea either.

@Hero time

lol! Bayonetta isn't going to get close to 300k in Japan! ToV won't hit 300k either. End of Eternity won't either, it's a new IP.

And?

Prediction:

TGS this year for PS3 will be amazing.

Grandia comes to PSN(PSone classic).

First Versus gameplay this year.

The Adventures Of Duane and Brando

Bayonetta will most likely do around 300k...But this trhead is about First day sales.

Take my love, take my land..

I love Platnium/Clover but I don't think they're going to have a ton of luck with Bayonetta (much like MadWorld).

I would suspect

Wii Sports Resort (3 million+)

Final Fantasy XIII (2.5 million)

Monster Hunter 3 (800k)

Wii Fit Plus (3 million+)

Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers (400-500k)

Pikmin 3 (600k)

Gran Turismo 5 (900k)

Would be my picks for games that can actually come out this year and have any real impact on hardware sales. A game that sells 300k LTD is not creating any type of real long term momentum for a platform.

Everything else is gravy.

Something like Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics is likely to outsell Bayonetta, Vesperia, etc. easily.

Wait, nvm, I thought Hero time said 300k first week not LTD.

In that case End of Eternity will. ToV could. Bayonetta probably not since Platinum Games/Clover aren't that popular...

 DMC 1 sold 650k though.
