I think the next nintendo console will be more of a sideways step then a cpu/gpu upgrade.

Nintendo said their next console will be HD.
There console will most likely be the only one I buy....again! :D I just love Nintendo's games! ^_^
HD is a given -- because it rapidly becoming the standard.
The time frame is probably open to debate because of the global economic situation. One out of 12 workers in the US is out of a job. In Spain it is one out of six. The length of the recovery will probably push the next generation to at least 2012.
The experience will be something familiar but out of left field (unexpected). We might be better able to determine direction after E3 to see where Nintendo plans to go in the next six months.

I am Mario.I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble. Wii Friend Code: 1624 6601 1126 1492 NNID: Mike_INTV |
As long as they give us a proper harddrive and continue Vrtual Console i will be happy
Being "HD" and having the cpu and gpu to take advantage of it are two different things.
I think Nintendo will go light and focus on adding something innovative instead of a strong cpu/gpu.
First off; there's no good reason why a console can't be HD (which is the future, why swim upstream?) and still cater to casuals and secondly; Ninty won't be as cocky as Sony were coming into this gen.
They only have this one successful gen behind them (Sony had two) and even though they won this bout, it is nowhere near the trouncing the PS2 gave the GC and the x-box (people will argue that, of course, but I'll ignore that till the Wii outsells the 360 and/or the PS3 by 500-550% by the end of this gen, which it won't).
It may not be worth it to go HD.
That means bigger files, stronger cpus, stronger gpus, bigger development costs.
Unless Nintendo can find some way to create a HD system that is architecturally different from the way a PC, PS3 and 360 do it.
Iwata said the only reason Wii is not HD capable is because the market penetration was not high enough at the time of the launch of Wii. They've pretty much all but confirmed HD in their next console. What will be interesting is watching when their dev teams slow down in Wii development as that will give us a hint as to when the next console will hit.
Another interesting thing to look at will be the controller. Nintendo ALWAYS upgrade their controllers in meaningful ways.. I mean look at the difference between the NES, SNES, N64, GCN and Wii controllers.. You couldn't place them all as Nintendo controllers if they didn't have branding. They're all completely different designs and I'm sure their next controller will follow that pattern
