Is the 400k number for the first edition and the regular edition or just the first edition? Because only the first edition has the demo.

Anyway, sounds impressive - just as expected. I had no idea how big it could be but it was sure to be rather big.

JAPAN:
FFXIII first day - 1-1,2 mln.
FFXIII first week - 1,5-2 mln.
FFXIII LTD - over 3 mln.

PS3 HW sales - 150-230k, depends if PS3 will cost 29,900 Yen by December 2009.

PS3 in Japan proved, that BRAND games can sell A LOT, just like MGS4(700k), Yakuza 3(500k), RE5(500k) and etc.

Japanese want PS3, all PS3 needs are GAMES, PRICECUT and SLIM model. After that PS3 will be in situation like PSP today.

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

But out of those how many of them have been Final Fantasy.  Once again we are dealing with the Japanese culture here.  And you just can't assume that most is for the demo.  It's really hard to use this data to predict how the original game would be depending on this.  It's even hard to do it with a direct download demo.  Remember the case of Too Human haha.

We can. The movie with the demo had 70% of the sales on the first day.

Surely it would drop but not too much.

FF XIII releases in december in japan, and if the ps3 manages to be at the $299 price point in japan, I highly doubt it would do those numbers.
