Forums - Microsoft - 360 DVD data limit is 6.8 GB

This gen really started with Killzone 2 did it? Funny but some may argue it started with Gears, Halo 3, Mario Kart, Wii Fit and Mario Galaxy. All games that have received far better success on their repective formats. A tech demo is hardly grounds for a revelutionary next gen title. Glad to see this has gone off topic now Mike has abandoned the concept of arguing his misinformation on the speed of the 360 DVD drive.

Lol.. by then the hardcore is already in the next gen... and 200 million current gen people have a Wii.

I doubt that, but regarding sales the Wii is certainly current gen. Specs wise it's not so different from now discontinued consoles like the GameCube and original XBox.

Technically specs wise the Atari Lynx could be considered a gen ahead compared to the original Gameboy (both from 1989), but it took until a full decade later when such specs became common amongst consumers with the release of the Gameboy color.

Similarly the Amiga was introduced in a PC dominated world, technically for gaming its lowest spec entry model was about 5 years ahead of the highest specced gaming PC.

PS3 vs 360 sales

@ kowenicki

I think you misread, I said console gaming has become a lot more interesting to me.

Imagine if we still had only SDTVs for instance, then PC gaming has an edge in this regard.

Now the PC is at a disadvantage for me, I like to keep my work and living room entertainment seperate. I prefer to work on a 17 inch monitor, but like to game and watch movies on an as big as possible HDTV.

Actually the 360 benefits from the PS3 memory efficiencies. There are lots of dev quotes with regard to this, regarding SPU development. This is why code ported to the SPUs also run more efficiently on the PS3's PPU when kept compatible.

I am going to say this just once for all who may not have encountered Mike before.

There is no realistic eventuality in which a title developed primarily based on the PS3's structure then ported to the Xbox 360 will outperform one developed primarily developed on the Xbox 360.

What MikeB has written here is either a mistake or a lie, depending on how much intelligence and integrity you credit him with.

Given the number of times he has made this argument and been proven wrong, I'm going to guess it is a lie.

criterio burn out paradise. first game of 360 to go 60fps til Cod4

Wow - with all this bickering, I'm glad MS decided to use DVD and not CD...can you imagine the debates then?

"Oh - 700MB is PLENTY for GeoW2!"

and the multiplats:
"RE5 being on 10CD's in no way impacts development of the PS3 version"

Why do folks get so upset all the time?

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

@MikeB this gen started when Sony got trashed.

(You can decide by whom if you want, i'll leave it up to you)

Tease.

Pfft, nothing compared to what sonys blu-ray can handle

Sony=win
Microsoft=failz

You didn't engage with his point at all Mike.

Fortunately, it has become common knowledge over the previous three generations that technical specifications have little or nothing to do with generational victors.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

@ Starcraft

It matters with regard to what I am interested in personally.

A special PS2.5 version could be released onto the Chinese market and sell half a billion, that wouldn't matter much to me personally at all. I still would view this PS3 2.5 as based on last gen low specced technology.

If a low specced PC sells 10 times as much than a high specced PC, I still wouldn't buy the low specced version if the high specced version provides me with significant benefits.

It's not all black & white people, sales aren't everything. For example the NES sold really well, but the Amiga 500 in general had far better quality games for it. Multi-platfrom games sucked on the NES compared to the Amiga versions.

The NES in general (apart from Mario) was of no interest to me.
