Lol.. by then the hardcore is already in the next gen... and 200 million current gen people have a Wii.
I doubt that, but regarding sales the Wii is certainly current gen. Specs wise it's not so different from now discontinued consoles like the GameCube and original XBox.
Technically specs wise the Atari Lynx could be considered a gen ahead compared to the original Gameboy (both from 1989), but it took until a full decade later when such specs became common amongst consumers with the release of the Gameboy color.

Similarly the Amiga was introduced in a PC dominated world, technically for gaming its lowest spec entry model was about 5 years ahead of the highest specced gaming PC.
