Specs wise it's not so different from now discontinued consoles like the GameCube and original XBox. Technically specs wise the Atari Lynx could be considered a gen ahead compared to the original Gameboy (both from 1989), but it took until a full decade later when such specs became common amongst consumers with the release of the Gameboy color. Fortunately, it has become common knowledge over the previous three generations that technical specifications have little or nothing to do with generational victors.
